I seem to be relatively hawk free at the moment. Which is both good and bad news. Bad news as I am part of the SHU Sparrowhawk survey and it would have been good to report a few attacks.

whats the point of feeding the hawks , keep the pigeons in

it wount hurt them whats the point of stressing your self out

we do enough of that in the racing season . cheers kev d

Had my cocks out for the 1st time since September a couple of days ago and ended up 2 cocks down ,they were well raced as youngsters. That's the team smaller even before thinking about racing.

I learned a while ago that it pays to keep them locked up during the winter as i was losing too many of them to Percy/Sparrowhawks!!! But it wont happen again not during the winter months!!

I am the same as a lot of you I do not let the birds out during the winter as I do not want to feed the predators

If they are not getting fed they will soon move on

After all if you went to Kentucky fry or burger king and they were shut how long would it take for the penny to drop you are going home hungry

i use a owl on top of loft and i know you will all say it dosent work, but i havent had any attacks since

i put it on roof ov loft. yet other fancyers on allotments have had trouble with hawks, and i tell them

to get one ov theys owls they just give me a funny look at £5 quid and no attacks they can look all they like

p s my birds go out as much as possible

i have bean watching  a dvd and the belg s use a plastik pop bottel painted white with slit in side then a white boared of wood plased in the slit

all deterents are crap ,other wise we would all be using the same thing that was proved to work 100 percent ,only things that kill are 100 percent proven fact ,and if you are still leting you birds out in the winter then we should all thank you for helping the hawks to survive untill we start the season then you are contributing to the death of our birds ,[thank you very mutch] why moan about it you caused it .

i think im one of the lucky ones ,hope im not tempting fate hear, ive never been bothered with sparrowhawks yet my pal 1/4 mile away gets hit all the time,my theory is i always have my german shepperd dog out the  back when birds are out so when the sparra comes along it sees the dog and leaves them alone, because if it hits a bird in the garden the dog might get it .my birds are out most days

I have had a plastic owl erected on my avery for a few years now, i took it down one day to get the hut painted, the stock birds were out in the avery at the time, i came in the house for a cup, heard all the fluttering from the stock doos, looked out the window and the hen was sitting on top of the avery looking in at the birds.

The owl was put back up, and touch wood i havent seen it since, i also have the radio playing when the birds are out, dont no if that makes any difference or not, but havent had any problems so far, so there is something working.  ;)
