I have cats using my garden as a toilet thru the night so no doubt will be hanging around the loft when am not there. I was wondering about a solar powered electric fence system. Has anyone used one?

Before anybody tells me its cruel....I'm sure it's less cruel than option B

I don't think it is cruel. On the rare occasion where they are stupid enough to be zapped, it is only enough to shock them into not trying it again. Usually they sense the danger and don't even try. :)

I have so many time advocated the Electric fence. undoubtedly the best thing - regards pigeons and our sport - I have ever done. I run a wired 4 - 6 inches above all the fences. Around the loft and walls. Indeed every bit of the garden.

It is legal and 12 vote. Doesn't harm or even hurt any thing. Just a tingle. Cats sit back and look again. Nose forward - some say they can smell it. and take it on board. Will look from afar … but never come to crap in garden, or spy on the pigeons.

when building my last loft, I had took the electric fence down. Pigeons were at another's abode. Crap and what not straight away defiled my garden. When laying the concrete floor, as always happens apparently, cat's foot prints were in the cement.

I connected the electric s fence later. Nary a problem. One cat dropped in on top off the loft be means on the trees. Loft is built directly under trees. Sniffed the lines going over the loft by 5 inches. A quick touch on nose and it scarpered quick. Yes neighbours cats look on... but never come into the garden, or on the loft.

Best few quid spent. Yes still up. Still no cats.

Not so cruel as watching a cat eat a pigeon alive. Firstly from feet up wards. Playing and tormenting the poor bird.

Steve, I have an electric fence and have had for many a year, Purchased from "Agrisellex" , It is 50 metres long and encircles the garden powered by a "Copel 4" energiser which knocks out a 14,000 volt kick every second. It may be a bit pricey however it is on a timer and I can assure you, you will never have problems with Rats, Cats, Foxes or humans who should not be on your property ever again.. Best deterrent going..

Aye Steve but what was shown was a single wire suitable for horses etc, instead of a proper metre high integrated fence.

I see pal. I cant put a metre high fence up Peter but I can put a single wire along an existing solid wooden fence

I don't think you'll find a 14000 volts unit plus it would most probably be illegal the company's that make hear make them to about 8700 volts that's more than enough you have got to make sure the earth on the unit is well in the damp ground otherwise you don't get maximum effect Gallagher make an s10 which would be more than enough

Can't climb a fence Walter. Comes a time when they will realise and totally ignore it … Have known cats to drop on the dogs back and claw at the eyes. the dog runs for miles... while it can still see. Doesn't happen a lot... but once is enough.

Dad had cats, kittens that grew up with the pigeons. Also had a good dog. Dog kept them out the garden. Cats kept them away from the loft top etc.
