  1. Tuesday saw weigh day and the birds weighed in this week at an average of 16.7oz. Which saw one cock in particular put on 9 grams. I was hoping theteam was going to be around the 16.5oz this week but fill this cock pushed that average up. At the federation meeting it was announced we was 2nd,3rd,8th,14th,16th,20th fed, which i felt was very good as no ets is used in my federation through gentlemans agreement so i was more then happy with the teams performance in a very close race. Just hope the good run can continue
  2. Thanks for the kind comment on being an expert but being honest thats far from the truth, i dont think there is any expert in this game as every day is a learning day. My pigeons diet is extremely high in fats, as i want my pigeons bodies to metabolize fat as its number 1 energy source. The fact of the matter is any carbs fed to pigeons is used up extremely quickly, so fats as the main energy source is the best choice. A way to look at my pigeons is that they could be on similar to an Atkins diet, and the benefits of the high fat diet is well established with extra energy, extra muscle mass just two examples. As ive said in the blog previous my birds recieve hemp after every exercise period, and peanuts after every meal. That isnot including the peanuts, sunflower hearts and various other fat sources that are in the widowhood mix. I feel a feed manufactuer may be of better benefit to answer your question on this buddy, as my thoughts are basic, and are just through years of experimentation. However i can suggest Eddy Noel of matador he is very precise and he also featured on secrets of champions and has a big feature on his 'Fat Thursday'. Regarding wind and milage for myself it does come into play and will tweak certain things when neccesary but it would be difficult to describe, and most of my decisions are based on the wind what country file give on a sunday.
  3. How do the droppings smell
  4. Today, sees the protein weaned from the racing mixture, allowing the carbs and fats to be increased, with the next two days being extremely fatty. The young birds recieve there second vaccination for pmv and herpes. This means the young birds are to be kept in today. Their coats are changing daily, and youngsters appearances make birds once instantly recogniseable to ones you have to take a second glance at.
  5. Well done georgie boy!!
  6. The Vandenbrande another introduction to the loft, his children and grandchildren love the sprints upto 192 miles, breeder of and responsible for federation winners here
  7. This red cock is sire, grandsire and great grandsire of winners here, he is a full brother to sticker donckers famous Wonderboy, and he is responsible for the red and mealy line in my family of birds. The sticker donckers made an immediate impact when they was introduced here. Two half brothers from this cock yesterday was 1st and 2nd.
  8. Thank you gentlemen
  9. 2nd race of the season racing from Newark 114 miles....hopefully this run of form continues, i had 5 hens first to take 1st 2nd 3rd 5th and 6th club in the Newham Invation club competing against 250 pigeons, 3 cocks followed shortly after to take 1st 2nd 3rd in the Custom House Club competing against 120 pigeons. Good race all birds home within 20-25 minutes.
  10. 9.15 newark NW wind East London Federation
  11. The youngsters put in just over the hour today, i get much excitement from youngsters flying habbits as they perform their arial acrobatics, which im lead to believe is them oracticing their built in defense mechanism. They are in a regular routine with feeding and time out which will last them for the entire year now, it is another form of brainwashing. They will recieve their second vaccination for pmv and herpes very soon.
  12. The youngsters were up flying well for 55 minutes today, if they carry on for the next 3 weeks they will be basketed for there first tosses. But lets not count our chickens before they hatch
  13. Hi pete I know what you are saying but, it hasnt really answered the question? What do think is the difference in work rate from training and loft flying? Im not having a dig or anything just a general query as my birds will exercise fantastic but when they train they put in much more effort and work there is a significant difference in the rate they use their wings imo, but what is yours? Regards Ryan
  14. When you say eat well, how much are they eating? With blue flesh, my opinion is that their blood is not right and need a form of detox, if it was in my own loft they would be given a fast 24-48 hours, then put onto barley only, with naturaline in the drinker for the next 7 days at a double dose. We'd then find the condition has vastly improved.
  15. Pete, i would like to hear your thoughts on the difference in work rate around the loft and training.
  16. Dale, cheers for that what was his findings? Bernie races in Tony C federation, and i speak to him at combine marking sometimes. Regards Ryan
  17. The thesis behind the bowl being turned over, was that fanciers believed the cock felt the hen was underneath the bowl...hence when it was turned back over the hen appeared.
  18. Tuesday being weigh day saw the cocks team weighing in on average 16.8 ounces..the week before the first race they averaged in 17.5, and the week of the first race they was at 16.8 ounces. I am keeping track of the individual weights each week and if a bird is lucky enough to score, i write down its position earned by its weight for the week. Hopefully i can find a link to performance and weight. A post interested me regarding the nest bowl, and its something i have played with for years. Bowl in, bowl out, nest material still in, bowl turnt over, you name it ive tried it....and i came to one conclusion it makes not a blind bit of difference what you do with it, however I obtained some nest bowls from a fancier whos birds i auctioned, that were all hand made and many were made before the war, and being extremely deep, whether im right or wrong but the birds seem a lot more keener the deeper a nest bowl is.
  19. The youngsters are starting to put in around 25-30 minutes a day now since i introduced them to a 60% 40% diet.... They would normally be on the darkness plus ic with a 1/4 of that being depurative, however buying too much of a mix in the winter, they are having to finish that. They are on the naturaline and sedochol and feathers are dropping like no tomorrow. They know what the call is about and they have no hesitation listening to their master. Sunday saw the racers with a high protein diet to repair the muscles and i allowed them to relax in the bath and with the high temperatures they really enjoyed themselves.
  20. Yes jonesy Thank you all for your kind words, ive been told we ended up 3rd,5th and 6th Federation.
  21. Great start to the season racing to the new loft from 73 miles, winning 1st Newham club against 293 birds with my good hen Scratch, and 1st and 2nd Custom house club against 136 birds with my cocks, being the good son of the old slatey, and a previous fed winning yearling. Im very happy with the results especially since it is a new loft. All children from the said pigeons went to new lofts this year so hopefully the fanciers with them can also have success.
  22. East London and County of Essex Federation joint liberation from Peterborough at 10am Light South wind
