  1. I Think the public get taken in by their Title, RSPB, PROTECTION OF BIRDS, where in reality it should read, Some Birds
  2. Even though planning result didn't go as hoped, I think a big vote of thanks is in order for Walter for his prolonged efforts in this matter
  3. I agree there George, I'm afraid in this country we will always be considered as a flat-cap sport
  4. I don't think they will be flying loose at those prices so hopefully not too much concern for pigeon fanciers
  5. I pressed add reply and site went silly and said web page unavailable, so I went in reverse and tried again and got a doubler
  6. It's on my TV channel 104 It's on my TV channel 104
  7. I wonder why they show the Union flag for an English bird
  8. Yes, I agree, not a race you would want to show the public to promote the sport
  9. Then why not both, felt for a base and stalks to keep the cocks happy and fit, if you were on open loft as I am you would never have a poorly made nest
  10. I think using felts is for the benefit of the fancier, stalks are for the benefit of the birds, especially the cock birds that enjoy nest building

    Some Young Tits

Very good pics, the parents certainly work hard with that size of brood
  14. What I meant was it doesn't matter how long you've had the cock as you wont be racing him why take a chance in the middle of rearing youngsters, take your time and concentrate on the youngsters, if he stayed around for that length of time I think you might well see him tomorrow, Good Luck

    Weather.

Just a question lads, why the hell do you live in Scotland?
  16. Good lesson to be learnt here, why the hurry to break pigeons when you should be concentrating on breeding a good round of youngsters to race later this year and as has been said, hen should rear them OK but you may need to top up with soaked seed, just keep an eye on them.
  17. I expect others have had a similar experience, I had a y/bird drop in with mine on race day, put it in basket with food and water and took it to work the next morning about 8mls. North of me and released the youngster, when I came home it was back in the loft, it obviously didn't know the way but must have had a line of flight burnt on the brain from coming home with my youngsters the day before
  18. I've not heard the nostril theory before but something works as they mostly come home and I know the 2nd. week in April my swallows will be back from Africa
  19. Welcome mate or is it mate 'ess
  20. whu rings, the letter is the same size as the numerals
  21. No It's not the way they hunt, usually attack when birds are on the ground but come in at speed so can take them in the air when they take flight
  22. They like forestry, fir trees and are due back about now, I think they migrate to Europe over winter

    Strike

I lost one yesterday, just a pile of feathers left, hope it was sparrow hawk rather than gos hawk at least you have a chance with them, the gos is big enough to snatch and go, this time last year one had 4 in 9 days I was lucky to be able to re-home it
  24. I think having a cock bird go down as well makes the lack of calcium theory highly dubious, I'm sure we all supply grit
