Went to a race marking this morning in Wiltshire, it was the talk of the place. The guy who was in charge of the station said Mr. Kelly had been round to his house this morning, crying and apologising.
-
Thanks for replies. To answer a couple of your questions, yes, the race is the BBC Bordeaux race this sat, 478miles to me. Sent 8 in the end, so will see how they do.
-
Thanks for the advice, I always worry that they throw the 5th one in the basket and leave too much of a gap.

Hoping to go to a an OB race this weekend, and some of my birds are on their 4th flight. Would you still send them?
-
The late John Ellis on there too. Miss looking out for,and seeing his name on the results this year. God Bless them all that raced in what must have been a special time in national racing,5000+ birds.

Well Done Tam, The birds are coming into form at the right time for you. Good Luck to All for tomorrow.

Absolutely nothing to do with last weeks race, only that some guys were complaining on other posts about the Lib-line and some people not using it, in case of giving ne'er do wells the opportunity to abuse it.
-
Well, does that mean ALL the Club Members are guilty as well? I Don't think so?! Can I put this another way? My partner taught in the School where Fred n Rose West put their kids, and indeed had a daughter in her class for a spell. Does this make her Guilty by association because she knew them? She, like the rest of the staff were interviewed by the Police at the time. Think, maybe the word should be a Victim, of being in proximity of wrong doing?

Nothing new there mate, welcome to the wonderful world of Pigeon racing! lol. Used to live near a guy who's birds used to do exactly the same as your mate's. His birds would go up and up until they were little dots, circle around for 20min or so then slowly wind their way back down. He never won any races unless they were a blow home then he could be well in front of everyone. Years later I learned that he was feeding Depurative all week to his birds. Good Luck with your birds.

Yes, there are a lot that go feral. In Armadale, are there a lot of Mealies? These might have been a few of Old McAlpines birds that must have returned after he passed away, as there were a lot at The Chinese Take away next to the the Cross, at the back, until they put wire over to stop them. There was even a big Pouter nesting in the back! Where I live now there's a guy who goes round a couple of farms catching them. Reports the ones with rings on and sells on the others. My mate used to go with him into the old Docks at night and catch them in Hessian sacks. Said the best bird they ever caught though was a BOP with a ring on it, they sold it for a good few hundred pounds!

Sad to say think you are correct on the above comment, we never learn till its too late. Could/Can we afford to send with an independent method of Transport today? Only if our two Nats got together maybe for the Channel races, could we see the numbers like they were during the 70s and 80s? Even then, there was talk of one mans birds having a half-way house?! The case of the Fauche Bros bird in Barcelona during the 90s comes to mind?

Sorry, I added to the earlier posts on here, on this subject. But I thought it was more to do about clarity and keeping the good name of the SNFC. Don't want to bring it up again but if you go back to the posts on here a few years ago a lot of people were very upset about some performances. Ireland had a bit of trouble as well a few years ago,but they did the correct thing and sorted it out. Only last week in the BHW there is an article from the guy whose pigeon was refused 1st MNFC Bordeaux. How would any of us have felt if our pigeon was refused it's just place?
-
To be honest its been long over due that you don't have to phone in your first bird at least. It might have saved a lot of aggro if it had been done properly? The SNFC has fallen behind in adopting this, a bit like Football with the goal line issue. Which is a shame because it puts all doubt, rumours, etc. to bed. Don't know if it costs a lot to set up and run, but more than worth it. I do know that they would have had to have a good phone service on Mon to handle the amount of arrivals. Down here in England we have to call in or email the first bird in all the large organisations, BBC, CSCFC, NFC, even the Combine I am in does this for the Bordeaux race. I can only speak from experience on this but I have been lucky enough to have been ''enquired'' about twice, once in the BBC when one of the committee called one of my club officials that he was friends with to check that I was an honest fancier. He later told me about this. The other was in an Internat when the President of the Inter club, called the President of our distance club to go and verify my pigeon, he replied I don't need to because I bred it,and he's just phoned me to say he's in! Did it bother me that these men were checking up on me? Not in the least because I knew that these men were doing their job to keep this great sport open and above board for all.

That's great thanks. Will have a look tomorrow.

Will be passing nearby there tomorrow morning, and just wondered if anyone can tell me where the actual site is? Would be nice to see them libbed if I am not too late. Thanks for any help.

Don't know about Walking Away with it?! But I think Rangers have more to prove getting back to Premier League etc.
-
Well Done Indeed! Just googled the route from Oban to Alexandria, it gave me 77mls or nearly 2hrs! How many of us would be willing to do that every week to put a few doos away? Wishing you All the Best. I hope that some of the scribes have a look at this post and give you a wee write up? What's so great is that in spite of all the hurdles you and your birds have to face, you, and they, have overcome them all.
-
It was a guy called Worm who put it up, didn't give any ring numbers. I replied to his post but he hasn't got back yet.
-
There is a post on pigeon chat about Almond Valley birds in West Cumbria Lewis. You might want to have a look?
-
Try High Fliers UK, I have some being picked up tomorrow going to Scotland.

You could maybe try adding some Barley to the mix? I know what you mean though, started to do similar this year due to BOP trouble both at home and when training. Started them off at 20 mins, can now get 45 without too much trouble. I would persevere, but like the other lads said you have to get the timing right re- feeding etc.
