I would be inclined to darken the loft of, might even go the whole hog and try racing the oldbirds on darkness whilst I was at it.

Put a plastic clip on ring on the opposite leg to he’s ring leg, tie a piece of string to the two rings so he’s feet cant move more than 3 inches apart. This will not allow him to get a purchase in the box when fighting, the other cocks will be able to push him out easily.
