  1. You have to ask yourself the question what will motivate them to fly home quicker and just as important to trap quickly.

  6. Have read of fanciers along with other things pairing up their pigeons to try and breed pintails. They will pair pigeons with opposite laying tails, they pair one that lays to the right with one that lays to the left.
  7. First race sent sitting then on widowhood thereafter.
  8. I found holding their rear end in hot water whilst massaging the vent area helps. After 5 minutes or so of this I rub oil in and around the vent area and repeat the process. After 2 or 3 times of this I pop a couple of cod liver oil capsules down her throat and place her in a basket. Repeat the process after an hour if she hasn't laid. Have always been successful doing this.
  9. Buying these in quantities I believe is a mistake. Being an oil based seed they have a short shelf life and can go rancid.
  10. I'm of the opinion that whatever pigeons you house you must believe they're good enough. I cant see how you can get the best out of them if you think what you race are mediocre, you'll never give it your all if you don't believe in them. Its an all to easy an excuse to blame the pigeons.

  18. The club I race in amalgamated with another club (they lost their premises) some 10 years ago. I'm confident if you were to ask all our members if there's any regrets they'd be none. Of course at the start we all had to sit around a table and try to accommodate each clubs existing rules, give and take was the order of the day and we still race to those rules to this day. Trophies were combined and voted on which were to be flown for, again give and take was the order of the day. Competition got fiercer and with that came outstanding performances which one could argue may not never had happened if this amalgamation was shunned.
  19. Should clubs adopt the idea that prize money shouldn't be raced for = race entry fees to be kept to a minimum. Those that wish to race for money can do so by pooling or having side bets. This would benefit those on limited income & youngsters coming into the sport.
  20. When I started racing pigeons in 1989 Dagenham hosted 8 pigeon clubs I would say in a 3 mile radius, today there's 2 remaining. This year my club has had two resignations and health issues has caught up with another two of our elder members. On the plus side we've had two new starters welcomed into our club, one could say were just about keeping our head above water. In the past during the winter months it seemed that every other week we went along to clubs prize presentation evenings, these days not one is held locally. It seems a sad fact that the smaller a club becomes the more the social side of things diminishes along with it. Opinions are divided whether small clubs should amalgamate or stay small allowing for more winners. What say you?
