  2. You should seriously consider housing 9-12 w/hood cocks in this loft leaving the 18x6 loft for youngsters/hens/stock.
  3. That can happen with young birds as they're reluctant to pull out of the drag. Do they do the same when you put them on the training truck? Your old birds should come on a more direct line, if not it tells me they lack urgency.
  4. I agree with Wiley re your race program (sprint) Three things will win you sprint races (old birds) 1)the right system. Widowhood would be my first choice, natural my last. 2)the right pigeons. If the route you fly is from the south west where velocities are generally high you need to house out and out sprinters. 3)the right feeding. Feed light, by that I mean a mix without peas/maples/beans. I could add a 4th and that is position but that's something you cant do anything about. If at all possible I would look at having a 2nd loft to race your old birds out of.
  5. Horses for courses. Find out who's winning with what in your area.
  6. Nice one cocker.
  7. Rule 112 appertains to failing to claim/collect a stray that has been reported. By what you have posted I cant see how you got suspended under this rule. Contact your local region secretary explaining your predicament and ask for advise.

    Wandering Hens

A couple of things you could try. 1) When hens are being driven hard put a teaspoon of grit in their box everyday till they lay out. 2) Once all pairs are settled to their boxes and have the liberty of the loft cease feeding them in their boxes and feed communally (remove pots from boxes).
  19. That might be so Del but were untouchable at conkers
  20. Don't think any team would fancy you Welsh boyos in their group, can see them causing a few upsets. Good luck.
  21. Eureka !!! If there's Barley's being left they've been fed to much.
  22. Add about 20% Barley to your mix.
  23. Theory time! I'm sure we all have some thoughts on this. Here's my two-penneth worth. Its my belief that if the parents of the youngsters have had y/b/s there's more than a good chance their youngsters will go down with it. Whether its transferred to their youngsters through genetics or through the egg whilst sitting I don't know but my guess is through genetics, anyhow they come out of the egg with it somehow embedded in them. As with most things the parents pass on an immunity to their youngsters and this helps them get through the first bit of stress they face which is being weaned over. Once the natural immunity wears off the youngsters are then vulnerable at anytime of going down with it which as most agree is associated with stress. When you bring in new introductions to your loft there's also the chance your also inheriting y/b/s if these pigeons have had it in their early life or their parents have had it in the past. The end.
