  1. Theory time! I'm sure we all have some thoughts on this. Here's my two-penneth worth. Its my belief that if the parents of the youngsters have had y/b/s there's more than a good chance their youngsters will go down with it. Whether its transferred to their youngsters through genetics or through the egg whilst sitting I don't know but my guess is through genetics, anyhow they come out of the egg with it somehow embedded in them. As with most things the parents pass on an immunity to their youngsters and this helps them get through the first bit of stress they face which is being weaned over. Once the natural immunity wears off the youngsters are then vulnerable at anytime of going down with it which as most agree is associated with stress. When you bring in new introductions to your loft there's also the chance your also inheriting y/b/s if these pigeons have had it in their early life or their parents have had it in the past. The end.

  7. Old birds handle it much better which makes it much harder to nip in the bud. Loss of appetite, loss of condition, no desire to exercise are the things to look out for. When handling their crop will feel spongy and the pigeon itself feels warmer in the hand than it usually would (akin to running a fever). If peeps were to look at y/b/s as the equivalent of us having a bout of the flu they wouldn't be far of the mark, Its not as scary neither if you look at it like this. In the main when we go down with a bout of flu we lose our appetite, have no desire to work, feel like crap, run a fever & maybe vomit. Doctors orders would be to rest........... and that goes the same for our pigeons. A bit of subject I know but some look at y/b/s as a taboo when there's no need to.
  8. Calling it Y/B/S is really a misnomer, even old birds can go down with it.

    Japan

Could it be a case of after the Lord Mayors show? Will Scotland give them to much respect? Will Japan go into the game with a new found belief? I would like to be outside the ground selling Japanese flags Tora Tora Tora
  10. If were talking of a % in mixtures I'd go for Tic beans every time. Over the past few years I've found maples to be of a very low quality in a variety of mixes.

  15. Well Well Well the mighty SA have been turned over by the minnows Japan. Great game.
  16. I've no defence against this, they looked like a team thrown together 2 weeks ago and not years in the making. Much improvement needed before they play the big hitters.

  21. I'm with you 100% on this. When you ask a baby to body moult twice in a year on top of being trained & raced it doesn't leave a lot in reserve.
  22. No need for lights or anything fancy (cant get my head around why lights would help). Let them out once a week for a bath is all that's needed.
  23. A couple of things. Make sure is cold pressed Linseed Oil and don't mix it into the whole bag as it may go rancid over time .
