  1. Bump
  2. There's a fair decent loft on Done Deal now, although a bit expensive for 2nd hand me thinks !!
  3. Latest.....the Queens Hall, Dunoon has been booked for weekend 18th / 19th November. All classes will be as before, which I will post within the next week, all being well. Our plan this year is to make this a one-day show. Penning will take place on Friday evening and Saturday morning, and hopefully have prize giving late afternoon with the hall being cleared for the evening. As usual, we depend on the support of the fancy in general, and hopefully we can get our entry of 500+ and send a 'Scottish generated' entry to Blackpool.
  4. Off to Majorca in about 3 hours time. Haven't had a holiday in 3 years.....my wife and I are really looking foward to it. Good chill-out and a bit of sun. Temp forecast is 29 / 30 degrees for the week.
  5. Thanks for that, Andy.
  6. Just wondering what height different peoples' lofts are.....that's the height where your racing nest boxes are. Have been making a few widowhood boxes and like everyone else, I've been making them in blocks of 4. The thought struck me as to why this is ? A block of 5 would be approx. 6'6" high. Your help in providing measurements would be most appreciated, as I can get an overview of average heights.
  7. Most chemists would sell it.
  8. Golden Eye Ointment
  9. When using the plywood you've bought, remember to seal all the edges before assembly. Preferably with a strip of self applied fibre glass which will wrap round the edges. If you don't take precautions it will 'split' in a very short space of time. JMO. Is there an 'EN' number marked on the sheats ?
  10. Spangles were originally created by Oliver Dix, and their name comes from the perceived colour of youngsters produced after the introduction of a Hansenne/Logan cock. To my knowledge the term spangle ( in pigeon circles ) is now only a colour reference used in fancy circles. It is also (as stated before) a recognised feathering pattern in Budgerigars, and there are many colour variants within the spangle pattern. By any chance did you see these pigeons advertised on-line ?
  11. The training and racing of late-breds can be a very difficult and often dissapointing procedure. It would take someone with years of experience to know how to succesfully handle late-breds. As I've said on many occasions, one of the greatest attributes of a fancier is patience. Don't be in a hurry to get racing !! There is much to learn, and starting OB racing next year with a team of late breds would not be my idea of initiating my racing 'career'. Get yourself sorted with a few stock birds for next year to breed yourself a team, and then you will be off to a better and more enjoyable start. OMO.

  13. Best wishes Gary, and give my congrats. to all the family.
  14. If memory serves....a chap called Ashcroft (NW England?) has 'Blue Bonds'. Think they might be through George Corteus.
  15. Do you think glass / similar panels in a loft front play any part in the well being of pigeons, and up to what percentage of the loft front would you consider giving over to its' use ?
  16. So, Andy, let's add things up. 12 pairs stock birds = 24 pigeons 12 pairs old birds = 24 " 24 youngsters = 24 " Total = 72 pigeons (possible) I like to try and impliment W.E.Barkers theory on 'bird space'. Using this you would have enough room for approx. 20 pigeons in a 12 x 6 loft. I have always believed his formula was designed to optomise the total well being of his pigeons. I appreciate you may be confined to available space for your new loft.....12 x 6 is not a problem but I would honestly take a look at your internal layout, and possibly approach it from the angle of 'total well being' JMO.
  17. Just looked at the Arson Fund thread, which was last updated in July 2010. There was a balance of £880.11. Is this still current ? If so, can't the site use this to make a donation ?
  18. How many birds do you envisage the YB section holding ?
  19. Here's a few manufacturers you could take a look at Andy. They all have websites, so you can peruse at leisure. Ecco Sheds & Lofts,Derbyshire Petron Lofts,West Yorks Barnsley Lofts,Selby Clydesdale Timber Products, Derbyshire Tranter Lofts, Stourbridge Personally,I don't have experience of any of them, but others on the site may be able to help give info or experience when dealing with them. Anyhow, take a look through the websites, and it may give you some ideas as to what you would want. Hope this helps. Paul.
  20. What were you thinking of doing Andy.....building yourself or buying finished loft ?
  21. Welcome Andy, enjoy the 'Basics'. Great bunch of members here.....any questions, just ask !!
  22. Did any North Section birds figure in the Open result, does anyone know yet ?
  23. What are the ring numbers ? It would help others if they knew the ring numbers of the birds you lost.

Cracking pup, John. And may I say a brilliant name for him. He'll be OK, just give him time. If he's got it in him to learn, and he enjoys it........'with maturity, comes wisdom' Best of luck with him.
  25. Sorry, didn't get BHW on that week. Any chance someone could enlighten us as to content of advert for us to see, and possibly comment ?
