  1. My guess is 1380
  2. This youngster is very thin - and has blood on the back of its neck (can't look any closer I'm too squeamish) He's now in a safe box in the shed getting fed and watered
  3. The NEHU Futurity race is from Reed - basket today for a race tomorrow - Bank holiday Monday Can you guess the velocity of the winning pigeon?
  4. There were some good guesses this week, well done Joe_b - the actual velocity was 1230
  5. I hope more turn in for you. On a happier note I still have the mealie cock you bred - for the Futurity race tomorrow.
  6. 27/27 plus one missing from first race, a few minutes behind though today
  7. Up North Combine - Worksop 1st lib 7.50 - 20 minute intervals to 9.10 for last lib
  8. Redcar Central Flying Club - 14 members sent 426 birds (14 more than last week) to Worksop 2. 89 miles to most members. This is the 4th young bird race for the club
  9. There is usually less than 1000 - and by the time they get to the top end - Whitley Bay - there will barely be 200 - and they won't be together as they will have done over 200 miles by then
  10. Great - the NEHU Futurity birds will be due back about then! Not a good idea if you ask me - it's a Bank Holiday - why that late in the afternoon?

  12. Apologies for not posting the challenge last week - I thought I'd start early this week Team Hampson will be racing from Worksop this week with the UNC Friday basket - expecting liberation Saturday morning, forecasts so far are giving a North West wind What is your guess for the velocity of the first bird back for team Hampson this Saturday from Worksop - approx 89 miles
  13. I would say you need to make up in small quantities as the oils can go rancid quite quickly, especially if stored in plastic tubs in a shed. Years ago we used to put cod liver oil on the grit and mix pink and black minerals with it, but it used to smell off in a few weeks, so only made up enough to last a week. We no longer use cod liver oil haven't done for several years, or brewers yeast don't use that any more either
  14. I can see a load of strays from the South getting further and further north!
  15. - I got one back this morning in the rain though rain not heavy
  16. There's always a first time - back in the rain this morning, one to come
  17. It was very windy here at Redcar today, forecast was 18mph winds but were nearer 30 with gusts bringing the poor birds to a standstill at times, we thought it would be a disaster but returns were pretty good and better than expected. Typically my first one back last week is one of the two I have missing this week. I've not had anything back on a 2nd day with young birds so far this season
  18. Those are terrible returns- hope more turn in for you tomorrow
  19. Report on the Nehu website - stray page, it's the easiest way and you get the owners details to your e-mail straight away http://www.nehu.co.uk/reportstraynehu.asp
  20. 412 sent from Redcar to Worksop approx 88 miles - 3 members didn't send this week
  21. I can guarantee fanciers send sick birds especially the green with envy ones who hope to bring down the better fliers - by infecting them. It's true, those treating with antibiotics - still send their birds. Those who don't treat but know their birds are ill - continue to send their birds. Roland you live in cloud cuckoo land if you don't think it goes on - or have rose tinted glasses
  22. I don't know why the Scottish ones can't go up to border fed in the UNC to one of the clubs who also fly in the Scottish clubs and maybe get put in the Scottish stray basket there - would that sound feasible?
  23. I watched the European games for most of the weekend and found it quite emotional. The young Irish man who won gold for Ireland on the pommel horse, Irelands first ever European gold medal in gymnastics. The young Norwegian teenager in the 1500 metres final along with his two older brothers, winning gold in the 1500 metres and also in the 5000 metres. The 18 year old Scandinavian jumping new heights in the Pole vault, the youngest ever winner of gold in that event, the look of astonishment on his face as he kept clearing higher and higher vaults bettering his World junior record by 12 centimetres. And the poor woman celebrating in the 5000 metres - one lap too early. I enjoyed it all no matter who won or lost. There was a lot of comaraderie and it was nice to see
