This thread is titled SNP embarrassing. When you read some of the stuff it's no hard to see who should be embarrassed.Whats wrong with you guys? .We are Scots and we want to run our ain country what's wrong with that?. Maybes youse agree with Ruthie and the Dug that we are too wee, too poor and too stupid.

OK my family have lived in the borders of Scotland for about 1000 years some of my ancestors were shot dead in the hills of South West Scotland and tortured and hung at the Grassmarket in Edinburgh because the English soldiery objected to their worship of God so you see its hard for me to see how Scotland gets its strength from the UK.

Eh that would be me,I have had several opportunities to live abroad in the sun with my relatives but I will never live permanently outside Scotland which is absolutely the best country in the world bar none and I fervently wish we controlled our own destiny rather than being run by the Moffat fluffy Paddington Bear

I should have known better after all old age is supposed to bring wisdom but I thought I was going to be spared the attention of sparrowhawks this spring until Sunday afternoon when I lost a fine blue bar young pigeon. torn to bits and eaten while I was on the telephone ,I suppose I must blame myself for inattention. However it is hard to avoid becoming discouraged when the racing season is fast approaching and exercising birds becomes problematic I have no wish to incur the scorn of the more forthright contributors on this site but sparrowhawks are a constant difficulty in Dumfriesshire each spring.

Yes that's the one it is mostly directed towards poultry keepers but to me it leaves the whole business uncertain for fanciers but there is no clear guidance because of the uncertainty.

The latest advice I can find (Solway Fed. Web site) is that birds can fly out as from 28th. February. It goes on to talk about enhanced bio security which in effect means no contact with wild birds, maybe hard to ensure. Also advice to pigeon fanciers is that organisations should consider where they release birds from.I am not sure but Ithink they want birds to be released where this is little contact with wild birds....difficult??.All this goes onto 30th.April.As I say all this informatio is available through the Solway Fed website.I hope I am getting this wrong but I am a bit confused.

There was a segment of Sunday nights Countrywide on BBC 1 on the subject of the bird flu scare.I did not see anything specifically about racing pigeons but the expert who was on said there was no relief in sight before March.Maybe I should know this but what is the current advice over exercising pigeonsii

It's along winter I have serviced the car, read about ten books since December and cleaned the lofts daily but going mental with the miserable winter weather. To counteract the boredom I am compiling a list of the 100 greatest rock anthems. I have started it off with two ZZ Top numbers and the Gipsey Kings version of Hotel California followed by BruceSpringsteen and Credence. All suggestions will be gratefully received but be warned The Beatles and Elton John will not be tolerated and no disco numbers.

Some years ago I put forward the proposal that contributors on this website should use their own name rather than the customary soubriquets or noms de plume. It was not a suggestion that went down well and I must admit I have grown accustomed to the more colourful names used by some members.

I suppose many fanciers struggle with auld age Ian,I will be 84 next month and I am beginning to have fun getting six or so 25 kilo bags of pigeon corn over the 50 yards of gravel to my loft door and then heaving it into the loft. This happens several times a year. However I still manage because Ithink the doors keep me young............self delusion???? Typing mistake doors should be doos
