Club Law And The Duty Of Officials And Delegates
JOHNSEE replied to THE FIFER's topic in Articles & Loft Reports
What I am saying that in the event of a tie it was (many years ago) normal for the president to use their casting vote in favour of the status quo.I believe that it was looked at that if a proposal did not win in a straight vote then the chairman should not use his casting vote to make changes, ofcourse he was entitled to vote as he seen fit. -

Regarding the part that the chairman has the casting vote in the event of a tie,his casting vote used to always go in favour of the status quo, even if they voted for the proposal that led to a tie.......JBC/. -

I said I would not comment further but since you have made a comment regarding my losses with young birds last year, yes your right I dropped 23 from a training toss from 30 miles when no birds made it home to the loft on the day, never lost another bird either tossing or the race they were entered into, have I learned anything from that day,I would like to think so,since you mention my losses, how about yours..?how many y/birds did you lose last year...?

Sorry to WULDON for comments away from his thread,I do know that his results are awaited by many members of basics and all members are entitled to their opinion so on this thread I will not make any further comment as to whether this so called race is fair on the birds that are entered,I will however open a new thread and would like members to air their views whether they enter birds or not....many thanks....JBC/..

I think you summed it up in your first few words "ye pays yer money,ye takes yer chances"....sounds like the lottery draw, pigeon racing should not be a lottery.
-
I agree that this race is bad for the sport, going by past results and returns it is more for the ego of those fanciers that can afford to enter birds,I see very little evidence that this is a race where good birds come to the fore, but birds sent to suffer the stress of not making it home from relatively short distances,In my opinion this race does nothing to encourage members into our sport and is infact a very bad advertisement for pigeon fanciers and the sport in general....JBC/..

My fathers pigeons were used in the war, whilst he was away serving his country all the birds were looked after by my mum, army personnel would arrive at the loft and take a number of birds away with them, for some reason it was never any more than 10 at any given time, these were old birds,no young birds were taken. No information was ever given as to when any birds would be expected to return, but remember mum telling me that it was normally two or three weeks before any would return. The lofts were fitted with a battery operated bell, the trap would remain open 24/7 and when a bird returned the bell would ring untill it was reset,I remember mum saying that when the bell was ringing all the neighbours would come out and gather on the washing greens out the backies.on the birds return my mother would remove a small capsule that was attached to the birds leg(must have been like an e.t.s.ring)she would remove it and take it to the chemist shop a short distance away, where messages were decoded and passed on to higher authorities the chemist shop my mother said had a 24 hr door bell this was kept in a locked metal box to which mum had a key........these were the days,A feed allowance was allowed for feeding the birds,I remember mum saying that the allowance was far in excess of what they needed so the lofts in the backies got free feed most of the time, many birds failed to return...Dad received a enameled label badge "pigeon war service" he wore this badge in his blue demob suit with great pride,Older fanciers have a lot of great knowledge to pass on to younger fanciers.......cheers...JBC/.

I agree 100% when our fathers & grandfathers kept and raced their birds money was tight feed variety was far less than it is to-day,they bred much fewer y/birds than the average fancier breeds to-day and still had to dispose of birds at the end of the season to make room for the next years yearlings, now they just add more nest boxes,I honestly cant remember any fancier in our club sending over 2o/25 birds to our club races now there are many many fanciers sending 40 upwards, some breeding over 100 young birds each season, breeding from birds that were not worth the cost of the feed that they eat.....atb....JBC/..
