That's not how the neighbours feel
-
I have a few bantams which I had intended showing but the restrictions which were introduced (showing banned) put me off the idea so now they are simply pets. Although the cockerels are so noisey in the morning.
-
I have found the decisions of this panel difficult to understand. Last year they awarded the BHW Trophy for the best Channel performance to a North Road pigeon. My definition of channel is the stretch of water between England and France. Oh well that's pigeons.

Surely there cannot be much to add following this summary post by Frank.

This is an accurate and factual post fron Vincent. It agrees completely with my experiences. I obtained my loft co-ordinates from the SHU because they had written to me on another matter and they had included my latitude and longitude. OK they had snowpaked them out and I removed the Snowpake. The fact they had done this left me feeling that they were undermining my rights.

Did anyone see the letter from David Cowatd-Talbot in last week's BHW. He was asking for information form fanciers regarding our experiences and an estimate of how many people have left the fancy due to raptors. This is to publicise the problem. I have mailed him and it looks as though he means business. If any of you have information which would help him then he would be very grateful. For thise of you who missed the BHW. I can give you his e-mail by PM if required.

does any one use rape seed oil
Novice replied to mark dixon's topic in Natural Remedies & Supplements
This year I used an oil specially prepared for pigeons. I noticed that it contained sunflower oil. I priced this in Tesco and found it to be considerably cheaper than the oil sold for pigeons. I feel there is scope here to mix our own blend of oils as required by using supermarket available ingredients much more cheaply than the commercially available blend. Yes I will include Rape seed oil next year when I start blending. -
I really don't know Andrew but I think he really did his best for a very worthy cause. I bid on a bird and lost---so what there are plenty more available. If, indeed there is a fault then it is with "Birdstall Auctions" (I think that is the name). Therefore why don't we ask them to make up the hypothetical shortfall by way of a donation to "CIN"

Just water is fine normally.

IB the text on the SNRPC home page entitled "how the SNRPC was formed" is a reasonable explanation of the split but I think your understanding was correct and I believe there may be a disputed balance sheet at the centre of proceedings.

As far as I am aware the breeding of Fortune Lady was 75% Tom Mc Ewan of Elphinstone. Yes definately raced by Mr. & Mrs Smith.

Welcome Ina. Enjoy the site- Any friend of Harry's as they say.

Very valid point. Here was I thinking that this was progressive thinking from the SNFC when in actual fact they are cloning what the SNRPC already have in place. Oh dear
-
I know for a fact that many members of the SNRPC would be reluctant to rejoin the SNFC as they are enjoying "hassle free racing" at the moment. Their words and not mine. However I wonder who would supply the measurements for RPRA members flying with the SNFC. The reason I ask is that RPRA members are entitled to free measurements which is a big bonus especially when we change race points frequently. I also assume that RPRA membership would still be mandatory to compete in section M of the NFC. Therefore people who were really interested in flying long distance races would benefit from RPRA membership as opposed to SHU membership provided RPRA measurements were acceptable. This may have a detrimental effect on SHU membership. I am interested in all comments. Incidentally how do you feel on this subject-----Frank?
-
It's a bit early to comment but I believe the Scottish entries would be coordinated vis the SNRPC and as such would still be competing in a Scottish National in addition to competition in Section M. I must admit I missed this in the weekend paper.

Petition-support Karen James
Novice replied to Michael J Burden's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
Just to recap. The suspension had to be done according to laid down procedure. The investigation must also be done impartially and the eventual outcome must be according to agreed procedure. Should this decision be against Karen in the form of dismissal then she can appeal then take the matter to court if she feels she was unfairly dismissed. I would suspect that the decision to suspend (which must be on full pay pending an enquiry) had to be that of the G.M. whoever that may be at this point in time. Obviously the president should have been informed. If the committee were involved in this decision them that would be a breach of employment legislation. Therefore the subject matter bears no relation to the "lets get rid of the committee" discussion. These are seperate issues. I doubt if the RPRA have the resources to carry out this investigation properly without outside assistance and any mistake either in the suspension or investigation procedure will void the proceedings. I personally feel that RPRA procedures will not be suitably professional to hold water if questioned. -
Petition-support Karen James
Novice replied to Michael J Burden's topic in Pigeon Politics, Rules & Regulations
I have signed the petition but I agree with comments that she was probably justifiably suspended pending an enquiry. Let's hope that when it has been held the facts will emerge and some of her points will be actioned and she will be reinstated. For my own part when the GM post was advertised (nationally) I found it really difficult to believe that the best candidate for the job was a local. That definately smacked of "jobs for the boys". -
Glasgae burd enters a sex shop & asks for a vibrator. > >> > The man says "Choose from our range on the wall." > >> > She says "Gies that rid yin" > >> > The man replies "That's a fire extinguisher."

I think the pigeon represents a bargain at the asking price. I would love to have him but like many others I have realised that I should actually be reducing numbers due to financially uncertainty and rising costs.

British Homing World 17th October page 97 has a comprehensive article.

How do they manage if you feed seeds For example Redband. There is not much goodness in Redband but I wonder if they can swallow it normally

A Glasgae burd was driving down the M8 when her car phone rang. It was > >> > her boyfriend, urgently warning her, "Listen Doll, I just heard on the > >> > news that thur's a motor gawn the wrang wie oan the M8. Better watch > >> > yersel'!" "It's no' jist wan motor!" said the girl, "There's fu***n' > >> > hunners o' them!"

Louella sell at realistic prices. It's the others who are rip off merchants. Pigeons which are sold with a pedigree are priced according to breeding. The challenge is there and if you can select an outstanding bird of that breeding for a fixed price then you have a bargain. Kits of 6 for racing ---if you have one decent youngster left then that is equivelent to the price you would pay some others for one straight from the nest. Once again a good deal I think. I note in this weeks BHW a fancier who has not raced since 1968 selling stock pigeons. Not much performance behind these.
-
Before we had the expensive suplements available I knew a leading fancier who used this twice weekly. He said the only problem with it was "it's not expensive enough for most fanciers" Yes it is oxidising by nature and will also supply Potassium and Manganese in trace quantities. I have also been told that many years ago it was used by prostitutes as a disinfectant.

Not sure whether anyone else has said so but today's sale list are all van Lints also.
