  1. twenty seven miles from pathhead to st boswells according to aa auto route. pathhead to wind turbines 7 miles/ leaving twenty to st boswells
  2. twenty miles?
  3. where is the hills at st boswells frank?
  4. pigeons are usually airborne when making their way home. it does appear some of mine usually walk the time they take. this allows the pigeon to go north south up down east west. when you are in the air barriers that seem big when looking at them from the ground disappear when you are in the air. birds can negotiate physical contours at will. the only occasion this is not true is when something stops them. perigrines for example. wind or other extreme weather for others. if we would let the doos be a doos and stopped trying to be doos ourselves maybe this would help our understanding.
  5. how is it possible to fly in a straight line when the earth is curved. as to routes the main factors would be be a combination of location of lib point, wind direction during time of flying, altitude of flight as the wind varies at different heights. location of loft in respect to all of the foregoing factors. everything else is supposition and projection.
  6. jonesy the committe may well have disagreed with your delegates racepoints. again that is a vote. the same proposal can still be put in front of the agm where all the members vote. any of us who do not agree with what the rest are doing are free to choose for ourselves. but in all cases the majority vote will determine what the fed does. this has always been the case.
  7. like every other year the race program for the season will be decided by vote at the agm. each club has the same option to put up proposed routes. anyone who feels strongly enough that the route does not suit them has the right not to send pigeons. that is a rightful individual choice. racing and training from st boswells last year many fanciers from glasgow fed had excellent racing and returns. others may well not have. the same is true of all race points. some have a good race others poor. many fsnciers on the east side of glasgow fed would not dream of liberating in peebles.as this would be considered very risky. it is all about individual choice.
  8. funny how losses are always put down to bad pigeons, wrong liberation point, wrong kind of rain, wrong wind, wrong transport, wrong kind of sun, moon in the sky, telephone masts, radar outposts, liberated at wrong time, pigeons not watered, clashing etc etc etc. is it not just as likely to be poor management, poor effort, poor knowledge, poor doomen. if i send 20 pigeons to a race and get 4 home and all around me get 16 or more home the problem lies with me. for at least ten years now health problems have decimated the pigeon racing game. the amount of fanciers suffering due to this has increased year on year. we as a group have paid no heid to this. we march on blindly and attempt what would be seen in horse racing, greyhound racing, or any other athletic competition, as the impossible. competing with unhealthy competitors. year on year birds go down like snow off a dyke on a warm day. due to lack of patience and lack of trying to understand this problem there is hardly a loft in the uk that is free enough of debilitating disease to allow competition at a reasonable level.
  9. a full set of accounts are published every year in the bhw.
  10. anyone that thinks 95% of lofts in lofts in lanarkshire fly west of the feds most prolific winner have no idea about geography or mathematics. step for a hint the world is definitely not flat. anyone who wants to do a bit of studying will find that all scientific methodologies available would lead to the proven conclusion that flying to a north westerly location in sw winds is at a distinct disadvantage. this is magnified even more when the pigeons are liberated east of the loft location. all liberation points on the old route and the new routes are east of coatbrige. this is a fact. another tip to start away with. look at the routes to usa the planes take. they fly in an arc not a straight line drawn on a map. the flat earth society is under severe pressure.
  11. the birds are flying over, past and next to radar installations everyday in life. most airports have these installations. so radar beams are an everyday event and do no harm to the homing ability on all available evidence.
  12. no wild birds whatsover. who is the contact? my e t theory is nearer the mark than i first realised.
  13. would these beams being emmited shadow not affect swallows, cuckoos and other migratory birds. would the beams not affect all pigeons that pass over or past them. as to the route the birds take after liberation no one knows as they have never been followed. hot of the press. the birds fly in an arc. completely different from a straight line A to B.
  14. e t phone home.
  15. the different liberation times would i suggest make no difference. we seem to be desperate to find some wild reason for what happened. there are enough natural hazards in front of the pigeons without e t getting involved in their demise.
  16. pentland fed let their birds go at wetherby the same day. these birds made good time and good returns were reported. theory demolished.
  17. otterburn
  18. the report was commissioned by and is the rpoperty of the pigeon fancier they paid for it and structured the terms and conditions used in the guidelines.
  19. the reports have been made public. the seminar in blackpool was open to all. shu and / or whu have the reports in their offices. the fancy were well aware of the reports at the time. the findings and report were published in bhw and should still be their archives.
  20. the published reports are with the shu and the whu. the saturday seminar to discuss the findings at bhw blackpol show around 2002 attracted around 8 of the estimated 25,000 pigeon fanciers in attendance. i was one of the eight. one scottish fed in particular is still stubbornly attempting to race the identified routes. the shu back the fed completely by saying nothing. as to attempting to take on the rspb in a publicity debate. they have experts and spin doctors lined up to batter down any debate the pigeon fancy put up. the first thing they will request is factual evidence. evidence with a logical stattistical scientic methodology behind it. do we have it?
  21. we seem to be covering the same ground over and over again. the problem has been analysed and pulled to bits many times. around 2002 the whu and then the shu paid a Dr. Andrew Dixon and his team to study the problem and put proposals forward that may be helpful to pigeon racers. the total cash output was in the region of £80,000. the study showed a number of facts. at that time cumbria and the lake district was home to the highest density population of perigrin falcons in europe. it was suggested that in order to have a visible effect on the perigrin population pigeon fanciers should consider: not racing during the last two weeks in may and the first week in june. this would immediately cut the breeding success rate of the perigrin due to lack of food to rear young. pigeon fanciers should o all in their power to avoid racing through this area. Dr. Dixon held a seminar at the bhw show at that time. in attendance were around 10 fanciers. some scottish feds continued the following year racing down the hotspots. the shu who had laid out over £50,000 on the study said nothing.what chance have we got.
  22. glasgow and renfrew feds away at otterburn 8.00 lt sw wind.
  23. is there any charge for these gb rung strays? if so could we exchange shu rung strays for the gb rung trays? sort of balance the books.

    St Boswells

otterburn is not a move. it always has been the intended race this week as per agreed at agm. it takes around 45 mins to travel to otterburn from st boswells on the a68. same road when we leave the road at the new dalkeith bypass. as to the route the birds take no one knows as no scientific surveys have ever been done. sunday past the glasgow fed toppers are in the west of the fed. the wind at liberation was fresh west west southern. the aberdeen fed liberated at 9.00am and cleared immediately from the liberation site. i was with the glasgow and renfrew doos.
