    MY DAD

great news compo,, really hope his op and recovery continues
  2. happy birthday sapper have a great day , and good luck with the oncomming season
  3. i prefer to pick the the back toe from the ring with my index finger and thumb, ive found if using a match or tooth pick ,youhave to be very carefull,of damaging the dew claw,if its picked out sideways its ok, but if just picked out with tooth pick , sometimes it can be damaged,as the dew claw curls round the edge of the ring
  4. sounds good sammy , will be worth watching,,,,,, mon at 9,, must remember that
  5. it is
  6. could be said that a delbar is a breed of racing pigeon, and there are strains of fantails , ie black ones ,white ones ;D but i do see what your saying cloudveiw strange how words can mean differant
  7. been nice hear today, midlothian,, but a fair bit wind [dont answer that speck ;D]
  8. in my opinion tammy an overcrowded loft causes undue stress on the birds , and then the undue stress causes most of the probs,, but would agree with you on the fresh air bit , but personally i would rather have a few spare perches , really i would say it was getting the happy balance, but as with pigeons,,,theres allways exception to the rule
  9. you can be in partnership with anyone ,,upside, halves the bills downside , no two people will agree on everything on pigeons , can in fact cause arguement . if you will have partner ,better with "sleeping" partner i,e one who lets you do your own thing , but pays half the bills :)
  10. thats the way the yb,s should be, quiet, still, and plump [unless being fed by parents, should really be the only time you here them]
  11. this would make great sense to me,,,and give you double the interest
  12. every time i read this i find it truly amazing,,a fantastic true story worth another read
  13. i beleive we have" flyaways" due to nature,, if the loft is overcrowded, or for what ever reason we can have" flyaways" our birds are closely related to the rock dove, which colonised in caves etc,, i beleive that nature made these birds" flyaway" to start another colony in another cave,[ otherwise they would be standing on top of each other if they just bred and bred in the same cave] natures way of multiplying the rock dove, and starting new colonies, i beleive our present day pigeon still has this trait inbred in them,to some degree
  14. and b4 some smarty says whats that to do with wicker baskets ,,,,,,think about it
  15. raced 9 birds won ob ave,,,,,,,again raced 150 birds won ob ave, a lot easier the first way
  16. in my opinion i would wait till the temp is at least 13 degrees , but more to the point is how long can you keep a bird fit to win races i,e training in early march is a long way to end of july, in my opinion you can get 10 weeks of winning form for races up to 360 miles, but a couple of very short flies on a good day would do know harm,,,in other words its keeping the fuel in the tank for what you need them for
  17. to make money for the rich :'(
  18. im afraid ,[in my opinion] thats 3 birds now,,,,sorry to say, something very far wrong ,,,,its a.s.a.p for good avian vet,,,,,either for a pm , or their own test, they will advise, but seperate them from the rest, and keep every thing clean , disenfectanted,,, and allways wash hand etc,,,,wish you luck , but you must get to the bottom of it ,,if youve other birds
  19. ive had one at the loft , but after a while found they dont work,,,,,,i think theres a photo somewhere on pics thread with me with one on my hand [ a real one ;D] [that would work ;D]
  20. great to hear that p,p glad you had a great day , good luck with your entry and good luck to jason

    eagle owls

wouldnt take a racing pigeon,, unless it roosted in same vicinity ,i,e rocks etc ,, certaily couldnt catch one in flight, , same as perigrine , but perigrine tends to have the same habitat, the rocks

    eagle owls

if there were a pair of eagle owls in every quarry in brittain ,, there would be far less perigrines ,,,,,,,they eat them, if near them, at dusk, when roosting
  23. best thing since sliced "breed ";D ;D this is one of the wonders of the pigeon itself, reckoned to be one of natures most extraordinary milk produced by any bird
  24. a few years ago remember reading a part in the above book about ,,pulling a tail feather,, reason i am saying this,, [ not that i advocate this ] i had a pigeon [ 5185] broke a tail feather as a yearling , just b4 racing , this broken feather [,right in the middle] annoyed me so much , i pulled the stump out , it grewa perfectly normal feather and wenton to win afew races , so next year , as an experiment i did the same to the same bird , the pigeon at 4 years old won 7 races and a lot of positions,,,[ dont make a habit out of it ] levi said in his book , there was no proven medical reasons for a bird , improving health, has anyone read this and maybe opinions on this [expect some daft ones ;D] but true anyway [and who ever has my book could they please return it ]
