  1. had that with,, "sir colin" broken ulna bone [at 4 years old ] but vet was going to strap him up, but on finding he was sitting on floor on eggs said it would be better sitting 12 hours in the nest pan [less stress for him] but recovered obviosly never to race again , but flew well enough round the loft , but allways had that wing drooped for few mins after fly [often wonder how or if he would have performed if this had not happened] as this was relatively young for a distance bird , with the performances up to then ?? p,s this is when the vet told me that after a couple of weeks was to give him physio therapy in working gently with his wing, in case it seized up , which , worked really
  2. as levi says,,,its all in the jeans ;D ;D ;D
  3. some one borrowed mine ,,, never seen it again :) but very interesting book[and expensive ] ,,,in it there is a bird with 4 feet ;D[ honestly] and a bird with two heads[ true ] ,,,wonder how it would get on in an eysign show ;D ;D ;D as far as the 4 legged bird ,,,it could probably run home quicker than flying home ;D ;D ;D,,,,but if you look through the book youll see pics of them
  4. i wouldsay go by your own judgement ,,all birds are individuals , some take longer than others , but usually by 3 y old youve got their capabilities,[ i think theresa big differance to sprint or long distance races]
  5. i like to get the birds out in the winter , maybe not every day but , but if the weathers half reasonable their out, loft cleaned and in, i think this is better for distance birds , but with sprinters would prefer to keep an" edge" on them, and maybe out once a week, for bath etc,
  6. did you say the butt is nice,,,,or ice ;D ;D im saying no more , im not brave enough ;D ;D ;D ;D

  14. good luck paul,,who knows that might be a champ one day , hope so, anyway ,, stick in there and best of luck
  15. how far do they go rick? distance wise.
  16. i would agree with gerraint ,,kev let nature take its course, it may improve further, with the wing being free , and by using the wing , might strengthen the muscles a bit in the wing,, but maybe never be perfect , it may help by handling the bird each day and gently stretching the wing out and in a few times each day,, hope the bird improves anyway, best of luck.
  17. i agree with vic on this one, as through my own experience , found it to be mice [[never had it since ] ,,,but really could be a few reasons for this , but amongst the worse are mice, these can cause salmonella and render these eggs being infertile ,and make them lift off there eggs during the night[ as off course with parasites,,,,,,,off course thats the worst scenario,,there could very well be a simple reason ,, wish you well next time
  18. just thought id mention , such a refreshing change,,,,,i had a visitor fancier ,i hadnt seen for ages arrived at 2pm left at 2 am [lives about 30 mies from me] ive known him all my life and in fact our fathers new each other [hes ages with me] he brought me 3 hens ,would take nothing for them [ i know he paid a lot for them] we spent 12 hours talking , nothing but pigeons,, no clubs, ,no feds , no politics , just purely pigeons, he even spoke to some basics members and thought it was great [especialy an english one putting on a scottish accent ;D and another who told him i had senile dementia ;D all in good fun ,,,talking of old times , new times , old results , new results etc etc ,he even liked my home made soup ;D[ now that really is saying something] when he left , he said himself it was hardly beleivable, to spent all that time , talking , nothing but pigeons,, what a great breath of fresh air :) and beleive me i needed that,,,,,thanks my old matey and hope to chat soon :)

  23. I HAVE HAD THE MOST ABUSIVE PM,S FROM MAVERICK [iN TWO DAYS ] I HAVE TOLD HIM [HE PHONED ME] THAT I DONT WANT AND ABHORE ANY VIOLENCE OF ANY TYPE ,, IF HES TRUTHFULL HE SHOULD ADMIT THIS,, THE PMS HAVE BEEN OF THE MOST DISGUSTING TYPE [ WHICH I STILL HAVE] I HAVE AND AM STILL TAKING TO THE WEBMASTER , EXPLAINING THIS ,[HE HAS THE PMS ALSO] I NO NOTHING OF ANY PHONE CALLS.BUT FIND MAVERICK HAS COME DOWN WITH SOME REALLY BAD PMS, ESPECIALY AS I TRIED TO HELP HIM IN TELLING HIM THAT I WAS SORRY HIS POST WAS TAKEN OFF, AND BACKED HIM TO THE HILT, , HE DIDNT OBVIOSLY WANT MY HELP , SO I LEFT IT AT THAT, SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD 12 BAD PMS FROM MAVERICK ,,,,THERE IS NO NEED FOR THIS BEHAVIOR AT ALL , I TRIED TO REASON WITH HIM ON THE PHONE , BUT HE WOULD NOT LET ME GET A WORD IN EDGEWAYS ,, JUST KEPT TELLING ME HOW BRAVE HE IS,
  24. hi young westy ,hope your well ,as with your family,,, yes i would say you would be able to send birds that are breeding ,, only thing i would say is that when an adult pair are feeding two big ybs , it does take an awfull lot out of them,, so i would be carefull there, ,, but as a rule of thumb ,so to speak ive found that some of the best conditions are,,,,, a cock sitting 10 days on eggs, a cock or hen sent sitting on chipping eggs, or a3 day old wee yb ,,, an older cock driving [not a yearling , they seem yo get too excited, even a cock feeding a big yb with the hen sitting again [the bg yb usually eating itself from a galley pt],,,a hen sitting overdue on dummy eggs , then just when it starts to come off them [about 21/22 days] slip a wee youngster under it , it can become very keen then [especialy if its the birds first yb that year]there are many ways to make the bird keen , but off course it has to be very fit in the first place , pigeons are individuals ,and some race better to a certain way, its just a case of knowing your birds and finding out what they race best to,, its worth keeping a wee book and each week writting down the positions your birds came in to you , and writting down their nesting conditions etc ,best of luck, you did well last year for your first year, so lets hope you can now even improve on that, id love to hear either phone or pm that youve won a race, this year :) :)i think i would be as excited as you ;D ;D ;D,,,,good luck
  25. phone no, tammy 0131 440 0484 at loanhead [ probably about the halfway stage] of your first couple of races, [at least its better than nowt ;D] phone or pm anytime for the weather here [at the mo. its dark cold a peeing with rain ;D ;D ;D]
