  1. the club should be brought in to disrespute, their breaking the rules not giving you the proper notice for a meeting , their in the wrong just for ONE start ,, i think i would have a" few starts" after that ,, its just downright shocking, THAT RULE COULD NEVER BE RATIFIED BY THE UNION , IF THE MEETING WAS IMPROPER. i know how mad you must be sean , but as gangster says try your best to keep calm [hard as it will be] and deal with it in the proper way, most fanciers would do there utmost to get young lads or lasses involed in any way, so like everyone else , i think the members of your club should be utterly ashamed of them selves ,,,it makes yourblood boil,, i hope the union can sort things out for you, and hope the members see some compassion and sence, [ stick in sean]
  2. one lucky bird ;D ;D ;D a handy tablet for freshly wounded birds is arnica ,,from boots,,, seems to heal quicker
  3. i have found it excellent when feeding young , even a tablespoon in the water, their not long in drinking that when feeding
  4. put her in a box on her own,,,,and shell soon tell you [cheers stew ;D]
  5. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D mine too ;D ;D ;D ;D
  6. ;D had to smile there rose,,,,i had the same, but put all the dummy eggs on the chair outside my old loft ,all went missing,, me accusing everyone ;D ;D whose nicked me eggs ;D ;D, about a year later the owner of the yard where i kept them ,was dimantling an old flat roofed shed , yes there was all the eggs ;D old maggie the culprit [few apologises after that ;D]
  7. yes agree with that rose,, theres a pair ,look like settling in the trees behind me , ive watched them just recently warding of the hawk,,,,but have also seen the hooded crow snap a yb in mid air,, but think i woud be better with the crows :-/ :-/ also agree with vic on the magpies, theyll at least let you know theres a hawk in the area,,and never seen a hawk take one,,but theve to be watched as well , for actualy going into the loft and stealing eggs :-/ :-/
  8. something has went wrong there kev , for one reason or another, but youll usually find if theyve not had a perfect start in life, their never really going to come to anything [whether their latebreds or not] but good luck to you anyway and maybe better luck next time :) it maybe sounds a bit harsh but im afraid its true [ive had it myself :)
  9. lovely pair ben , should breed nice young birds , i like the two of them :)
  10. welcome to the forum , im sure youll enjoy it :) all the very best :)
  11. happiest memories for me was the" old meally" the bird had scored well from 360 miles as a yearling ,,all that winter my father spoke about this bird and was confident the bird would score at 5o5 miles [never stopped going on about it ] the following year my father past away in april 1968,, in july the old meally was 4th open in a very hard race in the east of scot continental club 3,000 birds winning £98 2 shillings and sixpence,,,,a man and a pigeon and a race i will never forget, this bird went on to score 9 times from over 500 miles [no gold awards then his last national position was from averanches 505 miles at 9 years old, i only wish my father had have lived to seen that.

    whats the bids ;D ;D ;D only god can judge me ;D ;D ;D
  15. ;D i used to feed them winalot ,,but they never ;D ;D actually have given them winalot , but ybs need plenty protein ,,no fancy names maple peas , beans peanuts , when the ybs are a week old the old birds know what to eat theyll throw the maize aside [unless starving] i put a tablespoon of baby milk SMA WHITE," more satisfying for the hungrier baby" [well it says that on the tin ;D] more fibre in the peas and beans makes huge droppings ;D ;D ;D[ well not that big ;D] but solid , the ones you can lift out [not with a fork lift though ;D]

    Auction

theres some absolute stunners in this auction , the more you look at it the more you would like ;D ;D a great chance for fanciers as members are definately putting some great birds in , i really think there will be bargains to be got
  17. in my opinion l.breds can make very good racers or breeders,,trouble is,,,, most late breds hardly see the light of day , b4 their flung in the basket early the following year, never having even seen a basket ,stressed out their wits and trained in cold n and n e winds ,,,nope youll never see them again ,,then the birds are blamed, if you must have latebreds [youll get some great ones for breeding at a fraction of the cost of early breds, bred from the best] but if you intend racing them , they must fly well fom 6 weeks old , there heart and muscles lungs etc have to form properly, they must be basket trained , they must have knowledge of the area with a few short tosses and really are better trained with the ybs in the summer, if they survive that theyll make cracking fresh 2y olds ,a lot of bother, but theres been many a champion, been a late bred .
  18. hi bob ,, wish you well with your ybs ,,in my opinion darkness system yb,s birds, should only have 8 hours daylight until the longest day when they are put on normal daylight , some do this gradual some just open up , this way they usualy have a full body moult ,but dont cast any flights

  20. when is a national a national,,,rennes snfc,1976.. 7,953 birds, winner murray and son ecclefechan 1997, 7,842 birds winner,,,j,poole, newmains, NOW THESE ARE REAL RACES whatever happened since :-/ :-/ :-/
  21. keep them in for a few days , then let them out fairly hungry to begin with, call them in and feed them, get them used to a routine, dont let them hang about all day, theyll eventually want to fly , only let them out for short periods till their flying better
  22. looking at your other posts about homing them and now looking at this post , i think this is why the birds seemed unsettled and possibly how you lost them trying to home them , maybe better with a larger loft with 2 or 3 pairs
  23. so sorry you lost your white ones , but as the previous posts suggest their better seeing the loft in an aviary or veranda b4 letting them out ,, but lets hope you see them again :)
  24. sometimes its just time and patience, if you do lock them up , make sure theres a half brick, in the corner of the box, so the hen can jump on , to save it being pecked badly by the cock , try letting a pair out at a time then opposite corner pairs out ,then lock these back up and try others, spend some time in the loft doing all this, and theyll eventually settle,, and really ,just like humans, some fancy a bird and some dont,, best of luck as it can be quite frustrating to begin with :)
