We used to keep them in a basket for two days to learn to drink, but don't do it now, every animal knows how to find water, they can find the drinker when weaned, they can find water in the gutters, so should find it in the basket, dehydration when liberated will kill most birds, the key is to give them pleny of time sitting with the drinkers on them.JMO

All mines go to the roof first and some go to the gutter for a drink, the joys of open hole. Lol

Their was lots of first timers jumped in this week in my area, but last week was the second race for most. P.S. nobodies birds are better trained than mine and I lost 6 last week, this week 71/72!

WE have 56/62 home from 80 miles yesterday, most have been getting trained since May & June with the national birds, so all are well schooled, my returns are better than most and no amount of training is a guarantee, but 6 short from 80 miles for these birds is too high for my liking. I do think their are a number of things happening but the main issues are... 1- Raptures, and they are protected to the hilt. 2- As Garath has said satalites and mobile phones technology is only going to get more and more. 2- I personally think when the moon is in the sky during the day, we have erratic returns, I would like other opinions on this subject, I didn't notice the moon in the sky this week, but anither fancier said it was, thoughts please. High losses from short training flights and around the loft are higher than ever this year and we won't survive if this continues, unfortunatley I don't think we can reverse the trend.

One of the best in modern day game, and was probably one years ago also before I can remember, and a top guy too boot, well done.

I believe they need to learn their trade and education for young birds is a must.

Your crusing Del, but we are plugging along, hopefully 2, good luck.

The early ones into the borders can't be far away, good luck everyone waiting.

I'm sure the SHU rule on clock variation is more than 3 minsutes fast in 24 hours then time is double, more than 3 minutes slow in 24 hours is a correct clock. Or is it the other way around? Either way I can't see how they can add 1 hour and 19 seconds to your time? I'm sure their is a clock rule guru on here who can help.

Thanks, Del quicker than I thought, hope ours are as fast, good luck.

A bit confused are these from the SNFC or the SNRPC?

With modern day clocks with days and dates being recorded, the 23 hour rule should be abolished, all races should check on the second day allowing everyone including the clock committee to enjoy waiting on ALL their birds, and we could enjoy a few refreshments waiting making the experience of racing national birds much better. IMO. Is their any real reason that we have this rule in the modern day, I'm all ears. P.S. Even I will struggle to attend a clock check on Monday due to shift work.

You forgot Gold Cup candidate, You are about the ways and strays, i put 10 latebreds that have been trained all year and that was their first race, (6/10 home and one timed)14.21 in total so far, got 10 in about 20 mins then a long wait.

I still only have 2/12, all these birds where at either Peterbourgh the week before or Newark two weeks earlier, these birds didn't see the north of England or some would have worked home, by the law of statistics I should have got more home and I know some guys did well, but it is a lottery out their now, the reallity of the weekends race is starting to set in and it wouldn't take much to throw in the towel. Hardly any doos left and now the weather changes, :emoticon-0179-headbang: Limping along with the few thats left.
-
2/12 very late and disapointed, hope more work in.

3395 birds, but no Section break down? Good luck everyone who entered.

I was at Kilmarnock, it was busy, but things were moving quite slow, I was their at 16:20 and it took me 2 hours to get done. I don't know who the guy was doing the clocks with young Kory, but I got a bit narky when my clock wasn't ready when I was ready to leave, they already had a strike about 45minutes - an hour earlier, so I was a wee bit pissed my clock missed it since it had been handed in at the start of marking, so can you tell the guy I'm sorry, I will appoligise at clock check (if I time in) all the volenteers were doing a great proffecional job.

Copied from SNFC web site news, Race Marking Following several enquiries regarding marking station for west (section E) we can confirm the reason this was moved from Bellshill to Airdrie was due to North Lanarkshire Council advising us three weeks ago that they would require full rent of over £2000 per month for the four month period we required use of the unit. We have since been fortunate enough to secure the use of premises at Gartlea Community Centre, Airdrie and it is hoped that we will be able to carry out clock checking there too – please check at marking station for details. We thank members for their support, understanding and co-operation in this matter.
