I understand the need to discuss everything put up on a thread, and that there will be a variety of opinions on each subject raised. What i don't get is people spouting off at the guys who are controlling or convoying the birds, these same men generally have their own birds in the race but are still accused of neglecting their duty of care to the birds. The threads quickly descend into arguments and slagging off, instead of reaching a SENSIBLE conclusion or common agreement on things to try out that might rectify our problems but the FACT IS no one knows exactly WHY we get these difficult races with poor returns and until we do something about actually finding out these problems the threads will carry on like a never ending Abyss of bad mouthing and slanderous remarks about some of the finest fanciers in the country. I posted recently that we should hire someone/something to track our birds from the moment they are liberated to monitor what exactly does affect them in such a drastic way on their journey home. My challenge to everyone on here is to put up a suggestion that might give us some insight to the problem, and for EVERYONE to stop slagging of the race officials who are doing their absolute best to try and get good racing for the doos. SO COME ON WHAT POSITIVE MOVE DO YOU'S SUGGEST??????

Corbiewood Independent F/C

7th to 8th done the damage there, a wee split in the batches somewhere en route. -
Timed my LSC breeder/buyer at 10.48 from Thirsk, 147mls 1124yds to me. Jim Cameron of Uddingston bred the doo. My velocity should be 1216.97ypm according to my counting anyway! Returns disappointing at 9/12. I timed the same doo last week too, thats him finished 'til next year.

Most of the controllers know fine where the other feds around them are are sitting, and what the Scheduled time of lib is. Problem is far too many have the "i'm alright Jack" attitude when it comes to co operating with the others. I have heard many many times of agreed lib times being ignored just minutes after they were agreed to with the feds liberating close by. One exception to this practice is our controller who has delayed liberating on SEVERAL occasions over the years to give other feds a clear run through, pity they are NOT all like Jim.

The doos will have to work in this wind today as it seems to be nation wide, best of luck to everyone racing. Hope we get good times and good returns.

I,m no sure George, its 149mls to me, thats as much as i know. Won't know ma Witton Castle distance 'til i go up to the lofts.

Will it infect Percy? if it does the RSPB will organise culls of wild birds to protect the BOP money spinners and to hell with the rest of them.

The SNFC is a club and like other clubs they will finish their program as others have. Its entirely the individual fanciers choice to send on a week to week basis or not, we will all have the same individual choice to make come the Yb SNFC race. Like every other week some will send while others choose not to, for a variety of reasons not just losses. jmo

The CD's are supposed to represent large eyes George, this is supposed to keep the hawks at bay, i have them facing out of my garden in every direction but had a sparrow hawk in the trees beside my loft the other day!!! There have been fewer visits to me by S/H's since i put them up though so its not a complete waste of time.

It was they ones that turned me against Grizzle's, the White ck was the exception NOT the rule!!

Yes i remember all of that, i don't have any details of the birds in the house. Got a thing about numbers, i don't forget them, even car registrations, once they are in my head i don't forget them, E.g my Da had a wee white van and its Reg was ALN 422 B (1976 was R reg so you can work out the year of the B reg), it was scrap but its number stuck with me.
-
Ma Da "gave" me my first pigeon, it was a Red Ch Hen SU 75 L 14925, couldn't fly out your road !! . He then let me Swap to a Wh Gr Ck, SU 75 L 14907 who when you sent him sitting newly hatched young birds was unbeatable in the club. The first one i bought was the Bellshill HEN Blue Su 78 L 13333, i paid the princely sum of £3.50 for it at a clearance sale of a Bellshill fancier Alec Craig who had passed away. I actually bought it as a Ck, but after weeks of trying to pair it to a Gr hen my uncle seen it showing up to a Ck, wasn't much of a Ck bird but it was a cracking hen, as it turned out she scored from Rennes for my father and was Dam to winners for us and another member of the club, who we were 2nd to it that day!!

How Old Can Pigeons Race And Compete Successfuly
JohnQuinn replied to john cumming's topic in Race Day
The old hen referred to earlier was named Fortune Lady, a Ch Wf who is the only pigeon EVER to win a double Gold award in the SNFC, i believe she was 10yrs old when winning her 10th diploma. I'm thinking it belonged to a Mr Jim Smith for some reason, i couldn't argue about it though as i'm no sure -

I hope the news is confirmed soon George, very well done -
I'm surrounded way guys who have plenty roads for their money Alan, so i'm guessing its pretty much the same all over the country. I would just add, if i get one reported to me, i ask the guy right out if he wants the bird, and if he disnae i send the courier asap.
-
Think i'm in the Minority here BUT when i phone a guy to report his bird, i offer him Every option on how to deal with the situation, i just widnae make someone pay for a doo he didnae want. £45's are pretty short in some households just now. jmo lads

It takes 2 transporters roughly 4 hrs to collect Lanarkshire birds on a Friday night so Saturday basketing is not an option for us.
-
Cheers Alan, i'll catch him the morra.

Your no doin yersel any favours way this thread if you have any aspirations to be race controller. Every rule is there for good reason, not to be difficult with members who no longer want to race in the club. Fact is every member signs up to the rules when they join the club, and it takes 2 mins to write a note to say you resign, whats the big deal?? There are MANY fanciers no paid up (£25) by the 1st of April and unless the Secretary develops ESP then he wouldn't know how many members in the club for the season ahead, what do you want to happen, everybody no paid by April 1st to be excluded for that season?? Or sit about waiting for it to come up their Humph to let everybody know what they're gonna do??
-
I'm pretty certain this doo has been in my loft before.??

George Macaloney & Sons with their M&D Vandenbelles Flying in Lanarkshire are at the top for me, the man is pretty much unstoppable.
