i got youngsters from him 20 years back, yes a nice man to speak to he questioned me about what i wanted, and about 30 mins later he then went and picked me 4 out, i never got to leave the living room, dont even no if he had a loft, lol

Forget the mans name who had Vend, Turban and many other well known birds. He had a fair few way Henry Mair's blood in them and his were sold for a small fortune so I wouldn't write the mans birds off too soon !!

Did Jim Biss not have Turban ?.

During the 70's there were a few fanciers in Ayrshire that attempted Barcelona / Palamos. I am sure there was some form of club, Scotland wide, where the members attempted Palamos. :)

Aye and VEND won Pau for Jim as well.

that's why i said he was the best distance flyer in Britain at the time Pedro

There was m8 the scottish 1000 ml club.

Dunno if Vend and Turban go back to Lionheart. If they did then it was a long way back and quite a few years between thum too.

Jim Biss also had in his loft at one time the well known Red Pied cock Wellbank Endurance raced by my old friend John Elli.

John told me he later bought the pigeon back

From FWS Hall at his famous Enfields London Auctions. Something John told me he never regretted.Fantastic pigeon twice Palamos 1044 mls and sire gsire gg grand sire to many winners.

Forgot to say Wellbank Endurance was 1St and 2nd sect E two years on the trot from there and his best position was 27th Open beating birds flying 300- 400 ml further than birds that beat him in the British Barcelona Club.

Also to keep the nostalga going the years were 1972 & 1973 if my memory is correct.

think biss,s main strane in his loft was van braune

Jim Biss had pigeons from many sources in his loft.

The ones I remember were through a Supercra k chequer pied cock called Favourite.

His winning pigeon descended from Lionheart was Natrix as far as I remember.

Whether or not Natrix bred good birds or not I don't know. Natrix was a good pigeon.

Henry Mair last raced in club races about early 70s.

His best club position was 3rd. club Lancaster in 1968.

I think Lionheart took about 8 days to return from 1000 miles while in the same location Conqueror raced by Alan Raeside did the trip in about 2 days.

Conqueror was much less well known than Lionheart but then Alan wasn't a salesman.

Conquerors velocity was 687ypm and that is the present record into Scotland from that distance.

I have no idea how many winners he has produced over the years but the information i quoted is factual.

I know he has sold pigeons to many countries in the world.

I know I had a visit from a Japanese fancier who was in the area on business and Henry sold him a few on that occasion.

I wouldn't part with any pigeons on that occasion but Henrys friend who accompanied the party advised me to sell and charge plenty as the Japanese guy was loaded.

The party which included an interpreter left me heading for Blantyre.
