sandy25 Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Go to asda tesco or morrisons and buy some lillies scatter the pollen where they get on loft , that does the trick and not as expensive as electric fence all the best

JohnQuinn Posted October 3, 2016 Report Posted October 3, 2016 Get a dug aff Jim Cullen, you'll think you've missed a nuclear attack the place will be that quiet lolol
peter pandy Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 is it 240v or just 12v peter and i take it you only put on at night Mains connection Tommy and incorporates a time switch. The one second pulse kicks out 5 Amperes which you would not wish to touch twice. Both my dogs wont even leave the house when they hear it pulsing when on. The fence is small mesh at the bottom rising to a larger mesh at the top and is 1 metre high. It has shocked the following to the point of no return visit, Snails,Mice, frogs, rats, cats, dogs,Foxes and persons that have no right being in my garden, I have used the car battery operation for poultry where their compound was in the middle of an orchard but found it a bit of a nuisance charging every other day.Like all things in life you only get what you pay for.
JohnQuinn Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 Does a battery charger with a long single wire around the area connected to positive&negative not do the trick Peter ? Pretty sure the late Alec Allison had a set up like that on his fence. Though I wouldn't gamble on it I think am right.

A leisure battery lasts for around 6 weeks before it requires to be recharged.
peter pandy Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 A leisure battery lasts for around 6 weeks before it requires to be recharged.I thought that as well but not if you are running 100 metres of 1 metre fencing. Perhaps with a single wire but I know the single wire 500 metres for horses did not last that long on the leasure battery as I had to change them regularly. Plus I think the Amp output affects charge.

You can purchase cheap pulsers with a small 6 volt battery but they wont give out much, I only know to my cost.

peter pandy Posted October 4, 2016 Report Posted October 4, 2016 The late Budgie "Aye we had one in the Metropolis" was having a problem with a feline on his landing board so put a metal tray on it and crocodile clipped it to the mains. When he switched it on it blew the electric box clean off the wall and knocked out the entire Street. Apart from the burns and a permanent twitch ensued, he was landed with a bill for Hundreds of £££ and the cat still frequently visited him. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

No John that just produces a direct shortYou need a single bare wire connected to both positive and negative running parallel to each other but not connected together and insulated from each other, the cat then makes a dead short and gets plated in the process when it tries to squeeze between the two wires Built one like this years ago using a small transformer and thread bobbins mounted on posts as insulators with bare wire wrapped around each bobbin, worked a treat for years and didn't short circuit in the rain

flying fifer Posted October 6, 2016 Report Posted October 6, 2016 One of the best investments I've ever made is a pair of Jack Russell terriers. About half a dozen cats around my house. None venture near the garden, never mind the loft. Keeps the two legged pests away as well. No electric required and good company on race days LOL AW THE BEST
