geordie1234 Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 I have never liked that saying about cream rising to the top Roland because in my not inconsiderable experience so does scum rise to the top of life's cesspool :emoticon-0136-giggle:
Delboy Posted July 28, 2016 Report Posted July 28, 2016 I have never liked that saying about cream rising to the top Roland because in my not inconsiderable experience so does scum rise to the top of life's cesspool How true this is Walter, if you look on pigeon chat you will see they are talking about some prominent, trusted fancier at the buster keaton.

Mind in light of the NFC cheat
gulkie Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 I have watched this discuction with interest and anger ,what right does anyone have to say who is a good Or bad fancier , I was at the bottom of the sheet last week ,as I'm most. Weeks ,I've had my moments As most fanciers do ,there is only one winner every week the rest are losers ,so keep in mind that just Maybe the fanciers that never win anything that they keep going for the love of the sport and don't need to beTold how good or how bad they are (myself included) take it from me there ain't many go through life as Winners .so don't be judgemental on the lesser fanciers there are lots of us .

Roland Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Good Post gulkie. Like I said many different aspects contribute to Winners or losers. Also means available and location. Plus many may have superbly kept pigeons in supreme condition week in and month out. Hardly ever have ailments and health set backs. These are of course fanciers of the highest order.Others it may mean 'Winning is the be all and end all .... But are they truthfully appreciating and enjoying their birds like many of us do? I doubt it. I for one never dream of 'Culling' a bird regardless how bad or well it performs / breeds etc. Mine either go and choose to live else well or grow old happily in the place that they have enjoyed the freedom and safety of the hotel I provided for them. Will say though the main draw back can and is having sometimes too many.

Roland Posted July 30, 2016 Report Posted July 30, 2016 Have you ever tried to be competitive or are you just assuming that people who win keep some kind of sweat house for pigeons?? I see you are spouting the brown stuff per usual. Plus the demeanour of stupidity in what you are implying. In no way, let alone or in any aspect of the rubbish you spelt is of relevance. Nor can be drawn from any sense of any of my posts on this subject. Just a silly line plucked from out of nowhere per usual.

Roland Posted July 31, 2016 Report Posted July 31, 2016 You're pathetic Dal2. Your permanent goal to wind me up doesn't affect me - lesser ones always strive to bring the betters down eh! ... it's just how stupid and out of context the bait is that niggle me.- Of course, sadly you don't know, nor realise any better. I don't brag regards my 'Swallows of summer', but that doesn't mean your contrive efforts bear any merit. End off ... as again you take the topic right of course ... well done eh? To answer your question Dal2 Yes, of course. Indeed used to prepare etc. Have also seen much, learnt much and know a little, and as such there is still a lot to be learned. Have been blessed with friends and Given or Bought good birds. I fly in an area of 12 miles tops with 8 National winners or more, and very many high placed. I know that only healthy and conditioned birds win races outside of when beaten by paper backs. Know also birds that never show can, and do all of a sudden win, and win well. I know that Parents mean not a jot regards breeding and winners come in every shape, weight and size. I also know full well that many roads lead to Rome and none are sign posted.
just ask me Posted July 31, 2016 Report Posted July 31, 2016 Stop the personal insults please everyone has a right to a opinion most people can discuss them without the insults

Walter swanston Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 John Quinn who is a highly respected pigeon fancier and rightly so started this thread but so far it remains uncertain what makes a good fancier in my case I freely admit to not being as competitive as some and I have no record of serious wins in races to point to.So perhaps this makes me a bad fancier. On the other hand I have kept dos now for about 20 years and I have enjoyed every minute of my time in pigeons, buy the time Christmas comes I will know each bird individually and when the 2017 season starts I will I will race them and deeply regret each loss? However I will let my pigeons out each day ,weather permitting and enjoy seeing them circling which means as much to me as winning races does to others.Someone on this site disparagingly describes this practice as pigeon keeping rather fancying maybe he is right and I would hesitate to describe myself as a good fancier but I definitely enjoy my pigeons.

Do you know of any winners in your area that fit this description?

Walter swanston Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 I personally do not know of anyone around here who treats pigeons in so ruthless a manner although I attended a moot some years ago where a highly respected Lanarkshire fancier stated that the fanciers best friend is the bin.I cannot and will not subscribe to this viewpoint so maybe I am a bad fancier.
kingbilly 1 Posted August 1, 2016 Report Posted August 1, 2016 A good fancier is the first to shake the winers hand ✋ lol
