JohnQuinn Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 Keep them on the hungry side and they'll be keener.
pigeonman2013 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Report Posted April 2, 2016 Take them to 20 or 30 miles. WHAT FOR THE FIRST TRAINING TOSS
geordie1234 Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 MY YEARLINGS WERE NOT RACE AS YOUNG ONES AND NOW THEY ARE HAVING TRAINING TOSS OF 10 MILES BUT THEY ARE TAKING HALF A HOUR TO GET BACK HOW CAN I GET THEM TO RACE HOMEKeep them at 10 miles until they are doing a mile a minute
Kyleakin Lofts Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 WHAT FOR THE FIRST TRAINING TOSS Depends on the pigeons. If they are loft fit they may just be flying around to use up their energy before deciding to home. I have found with my pigeons that if they are trained from around 10 miles it can take them 30 minutes to return, but if I take them 20 or 30 miles they can be back around the same 30 minutes. You will get to know your own pigeons and how they behave.
Wiley Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 How long where the birds loft flying before training commenced, and for how many weeks prior? How many tosses have you had at 10 miles? Have you done any treatments when, and what with?
pigeonman2013 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Report Posted April 2, 2016 they have been flying around loft now 3 weeks half hour each time they have been out and had three training tosses upto now and been cankered and wormed
Wiley Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 Imo if they only been flying half an hour once a day although it was three and half weeks, they still wasnt at the required fitness they should have been at before being basketted. Birds that get let out once a day should fly with vigour, and freely, so i would say you may have an issue with your feeding or the health isnt 100% correct. I would also always make sure their heads are clear of respiratory/ornithoses before id ever train old or young.

pigeonman2013 Posted April 2, 2016 Author Report Posted April 2, 2016 personally not being able to handle your birds i would guess they are over weight i would feed barley morn and night plus exercise twice a day morn and night for at least 40 min each time stop trainig till birds are flying for at least two hours a day at home. personally i only train young birds hi is that one ounce of barley a day i think you might be right with them been heavy
tommy bhoys Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 hi is that one ounce of barley a day i think you might be right with them been heavydone give a oz per bird give say two scoops per loft of barley and see what birds leave thats tells you how much tae feed after that ie if they eat it all its nt enough so up the scoops till there is food left then deduct from the scoops you used in first place that gives you the amount to feed nt oz per bird mate
eastcoaster Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 If only feeding 1 oz per day surely not over feeding ? Gerry plus is not heavy enough at that rate , maybe they have slight head resp problem .jmo
eastcoaster Posted April 2, 2016 Report Posted April 2, 2016 Keep them at 10 miles until they are doing a mile a minuteIf they were,nt raced as ybs give them plenty time the above post is a good guide.
