geordie1234 Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 As the number of fanciers dwindle would it not be an idea to start joining clubs together to make bigger better clubs? I remember my first yb race in Cambuslang I think there was 16 baskets (3 years ago) but that Saturday we only had 9.... with a few fanciers talking about chucking the sport at the end of the season it's looking grim Pretty sure this is familiar across the country
walterboswell59 Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 its the way forward george but to many thinking of loft positions as an advantage in certain areas so will only happen within reason m8 imo

Tony C Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 Problem is there's fanciers in small clubs that nick a card here and there which keeps them happy. If amalgamating with another club it could equate to them having zero success, they might chuck the game in. Let them enjoy what they're doing.

A fair point Tony which I can fully endorse. 2 years ago, the club I am a member of welcomed another club's approach to share facilities. We are both in a rural setting and I believe both of us have 6 members. We are based in an outbuilding of a local farmer and on marking night / results night the banter is good. We held a series of shows last winter between us, and both clubs will share in a reasonble pot, which will probably pay for their racing birdage this year. Co-operation again was great and the craic was mighty on show nights. I, for one, enjoyed it greatly and really looked forward to it every week. It has been mentioned openly that wouldn't it be better for our 'survival' that the 2 clubs should become 1. No chance, it won't happen. One club, in the main, are totally against it. Why should they become members of our club ? At the minute they have all they need in our clubroom. The new routine suits us both it would appear, so in essence we don't need to be one club.
Valiant Fifer Posted July 30, 2015 Report Posted July 30, 2015 Get the drift Showman, may be the way. Would certainly help some fanciers predicament, ie problems with club premises etc. Could stage club shows no problem with more bodies to run it. Could have an inter club show. They could even pool againat each other in the races of they so wish. The choices and things they could try would be entirly up to these fanciers and maybe things could open up for them opening up maybe a few more doors maybe. Sometimes youve gotta speculate to accumulate!
