i bred a latebred hen last year from my wee hen jenna 1st west section fed appleby 84th west section snfc newbury 5th sect 11th open snfc clermont and 13th section 77th open snfc alencon gold cup and my good cock jamie boy 18th section 83rd open snfc alencon 1st section 5th open snfc clermont the wee hen is a great grandaughter of my 19 year old direct son of de barcelona and lady wegan the cock is his grandson so id love a pair off the late bred hen and the old guy who filled his eggs last year after i clocked what was happening any way i put the latebred hen in the single pair section with him thinking she might lay late april or even may and anything i got would go in the stock loft but to my surprize she has layed one egg which is empty so i thought he was up to his old tricks again just happy to lie in the nest bowl with the hen preening him so i started to take the hen away at night same as last year and he would try and tread her as soon as i put the hen back in his section in the morning but this year his legs have got so stiff that he cant jump on her back without falling over and i have not seen him make contact with the hen so i have tried artificial insemination which i have been reading up on ill let you guys know how it goes as this old guy is the last of a line but i do have five inbred sons from him all breeding winners for me but a pair or even one off him with this cracking wee latebred would be the iceing on the cake as i think this will be his last season filling eggs or maybe he is already done but its worth a try nothing ventured

you might be right m8 but im going to try anyway he had sperm last season why not this season who says they stop producesing sperm at a certain age and i never said he did not have any just that his legs were so stiff he kept falling off the hen so makes no contact with her but like i said its worth a try rather than trying nothing

Well done Walter for trying, as you say he was fertile last year only his legs not up to it know so I think your chances sound good. Best of luck with him

How are you going to do this artificial insemination? I've seen how it's done at BIFS and it doesn't look like something you can do if not medically trained? How are you going to get a semen sample from this cock? Fair play to Ya for trying but Id be worried you'd do more damage internally then good.
