After 9 years and successfully watching over my birds in Wales, England and Scotland my DAZER ""TERROR EYES"" Balloon has finally bit the dust with old age and been retired to the wheelie bin.

Since standing guard over the years my feathered friends have not been subjected to any disruption from the sky and his replacement costs £15.00. What a pity their are not more like me and have a cheap deterrent instead of putting up with continual attacks and telling horror stories of losing birds at the loft for the sake of a couple of quid.

just checked this out about balloon .

can I ask you where you positioned it in relation to your loft ? also what did you hang it from ?

my loft at bottom of garden has telephone wires above it and 20 feet from back of loft trees and empty

scrub ..I have percy hanging about in trees need advise soon as

This year I bolted a 16ft 2x2 onto the loft wall with a gallows at the top. Ring screws on the ends of the gallows and down the 2x2 with plastic coated washing line attached to balloon adjusted to what height suits you. Another year with success, simples.

Interesting Peter. From what I have read (and only read) people say the raptors soon get used to the eyes. You have the balloon relatively high I guess.

 

Do you live in an area that would naturally expect to have raptors , are other people close by effected ? Do you use the balloon at all times / seasons or just before the birds go out ?

Been here 5 years and never had an attack to my knowledge. I cannot speak for others but I have spoken to others who say they are a waste of money but dont have or tried them themselves. Personally I could not care less what others say as long as it suits me. I take it down over the winter period 4 months and repaint the red on the eyes with enamel paint.

Not like the countless whims and myths totally useless, both proven and illogical, that too many take note of!

A hungry bop or one feeding young won't stop for flashing beacons,plastic owls,cds,balloons,Bali bells,spray painted birds,sequences stuck to birds in fact even the fancier standing next to the birds in the garden often dosent stop them anyone using these fads are just lucky imo only one way to stop them is yeboahs old teachers way!

Like I say mate, too many Fanciers cling to useless myths, pay money out for them, and which are often even detrimental to their birds.

Indeed one only has to look into their medicine cabinets. Performance enhancers etc. etc.

Mock all you like as it does not bother me in the least ! However perhaps it may have persuaded squirrels from the vicinity of the loft as well as I was inundated with the pests in Wales.
