REDCHEQHEN Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 The club insurance now has to have public liability insurance (according to the insurance company) and the premium has increased from £55 to £174 (which the club cannot afford) Who are you insured through (and does the premium compare?)There are not many insurance companies about who will insure us pigeon clubsbut that increase is ridiculous - it is more than my building and contents insurance for my home (and that includes £10 million public liability) and we are only insuring the baskets!!
andy Burgess Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 we had manual clocks and some old trophy,s insured in my first club that was £30 per annum. when we had T3,s clocks awarded it was a further £1 per clock .not aware of any insurance in present club ?? .shop around RedCheqHen
REDCHEQHEN Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Posted February 11, 2015 Easier said that done Andy - you can't use comparison sites because they don't have appropriate 'drop down boxes', and shopping around is difficult when so few companies provide the insurance - and I don't know of any!!!
Guest Jamsie Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 The NFU have very good rates and they are likely to have a category you fit into.
Tony C Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 The NFU have very good rates and they are likely to have a category you fit into.http://www.nfumutual.co.uk/ Am sure my Fed use these to insure transporter, crates etc.

Have there been any changes in the law since your last policy was taken out Sue ?? ask these questions first before you "shop around" let us know what they have to say ? i am sure you know what i am getting at . if they state you should have had this cover all along , tell them they have under sold you and will take it to the ombudsman for revue .

REDCHEQHEN Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Posted February 11, 2015 The insurance company will not issue a policy without public liability added (it is the insurance company saying this is compulsory- not the club wanting it!!)I cannot (and would not) add baskets to my house insurance (where would I put 25 baskets) they are kept in a container on allotments and have always been insured under the pigeon club name - if anything went missing I would lose my 'no claims' bonus and I am not prepared to take that risk

REDCHEQHEN Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Posted February 11, 2015 The insurance company have changed their policy And just because you see a sign saying park at your own risk does not mean they do not have public liability insurance - if you parked your car and tripped in a hole in the car park and broke your leg - they would be liable!!
REDCHEQHEN Posted February 11, 2015 Author Report Posted February 11, 2015 We've had a quote from another insurance company - £300 - it gets worse...!! The other half is now on the phone to the NFU
Roland Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 Will ask at the club tonight who we are insured with.
peter pandy Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 You require Public Liability in the off chance something comes off the roof or building and injures any of the general public.

kirky Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 You require Public Liability in the off chance something comes off the roof or building and injures any of the general public. the same goes with your house insurance, so why are thay asking for more than her house insurance.
Valiant Fifer Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 Not too cheap, not good news and a bit complicated as well.
REDCHEQHEN Posted February 12, 2015 Author Report Posted February 12, 2015 Quotes and advice - to snap the hand off the insurance company at £174 (the rest can't compete - or will not quote) So next year will it be 3x that again - it's all wrong How can you insure a 2 bed 2 rec 2 bathroom bungalow (my mothers - not mine )for under £100 complete with several million pounds public liability insurance, (and unlimited buildings and unlimited contents + one free meercat ) and its costing £174 to insure £5000 worth of baskets and equipment for the pigeon club It just doesn't make sense
Roland Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I didn't remember to ask ... But our baskets etc. etc. are in an out building at the pub ... and covered by the pubs insurance. Likewise my house insurance automatically covers fixtures and fitting / building in the garden. I did check this last year actually.

peter pandy Posted February 13, 2015 Report Posted February 13, 2015 A small piece of information to all who read this post regarding Insurance. IF you have a friend outwith the family staying with you and next door has a fire resulting in smoke damage at the vey least.. You are not covered unless you have public indemnity as I found out to my cost when it happened to me.
