This year the members of Solway Federation won 4 SNFC Nationals.

Do members feel that this is due to the policy of racing on the best route for them and keeping the birds on that route for 3 years paying dividends?

Be interesting to hear the replies to this one.

Also, have you been using this route for the past three years and are you intending to stay on it? :)

That answer to that is a simple Yes

Yes we suffer losses but who doesn't

For birds to win they must come On Line

Minute you start trying to get them to come round corners the race is already Won

You will get the usual response of 'ITS TOO EASY IN THE SOUTH' or 'ANYBODY CAN WIN IN THE SOUTH'

Neither of which are true.

Yes I think the west route has improved as we have learned to jump racepoints in the hills, have been proactive where we can with bops and have been more flexible with transportation and weather forecasts.

By the way, there are quite a few in the fed that would like to fly east again

We spoke about this very thing the other night...

There are good fanciers and birds in that area their history proves that. However I think their performances at this level dipped for a while and now they back with a vengeance.

Personally my interpretation is that their birds are racing every week on the shortest route home and that is the factor which has contributed to their recent success.

If my interpretation is correct their must be a lesson to be learned by other Federations.

yes we most certainly did but I am interested in the opinions of others as well and if I can sow a few seeds at the same time so much the better.

I absolutely agree with this.

I don't believe that it's too easy in the SOOTH as you are fighting the drag and the prevailing west wind.

Agree 100% Robert, the shortest route from A to B and that includes training have always been my way of thinking, only my opinion though.

its a no brainer alf keep them down that line the a74. m6. fairest route for lanarkshire. some boys dont want that as they lose the overflight advantage

but if your ever going 2 win the national they have 2 come up the a74 into lanarkshire

The solway can go either east or west without too much of a dog leg

If you look at the line of flight from Beith to Otterburn to Peterborough to Maidstone to Alencon it looks crazy to go east

absolutely spot on but unfortunately very few Ayrshire men are nationally minded.

when Ayrshire pigeons race on an easterly route we have absolutely no idea when they cross the Pennines. they probably don't take the all important left turn till they hit Scotland by which time the national race will be over.

Never going to be easy flying into Ayrshire with it being furthest west

Nith Valley seems to be causing your birds big problems and needs addressed

Winter would be ideal

When your birds cross over further north and come out of the moffat water and fly over my loft heading west they then have crap country to cross before hitting civilisation

Good luck my friend

I think your own best natuonal result was out of Ypres this year? I may be wrong tho...fanciers in the solway win east or west as they fly the shortest...

I had a decent race from Ypres but was closer to the winners from Buckingham---try harder next year would be the plan I think

Nowt to do wae decent birds or fanciers?

Personly I want easterly race points in national races, flying in my region it's the only way we get a fair race so much so I may only go to the national races that are from easterly race points from now on

You cannot possibly get a fair race from an easterly racepoint unless the birds come up the west of the Pennines. Pigeons forced to fly in an L shape but, which are measured on the shortest route between 2 points cannot possibly compete with pigeons which fly on a straight course.

I had 1 pigeon reported form the Ypres race this year and he was in Newcastle. I think that explains which route he took.

Going east one year then changing to west the following year is crazy pick a route

And stick to it for 3 years .

Absolutely spot on logic there.

HATE to say it robert but your right with this one most in ayrshire want short race's from the east side, don't think we will get going west this year,
