paddymac Posted October 21, 2014 Report Posted October 21, 2014 Apart from the smell Pete it definately seals and protects the lofts from all the elements. My mate coats his lofts with it every other year but only the back and sides and has never had any problems in doing so.

BIGPETE Posted December 31, 2014 Author Report Posted December 31, 2014 Greenlands, this idea makes a lot of sense. Am thinking to do the back and roof of my loft with these as worried about dampness. Would I be ok to nail gun these boys on or would you suggest they get screwed in?

Would I be ok to nail gun these boys on or would you suggest they get screwed in?Get the correct fittings mate,long screws with soft plastic/rubber caps,screws go on the top of the ridges NOT the bottom.Think there's a link somewhere on fitting.Google it ??

Tony C Posted December 31, 2014 Report Posted December 31, 2014 If for the back of your loft thin roofing felt is as good as anything. Nail through roofing battens to secure. A cheap & quick fix.

BIGPETE Posted January 13, 2015 Author Report Posted January 13, 2015 Hi Guys, My brother managed to get a lot of bitumen paint from where he works, so decided to go with using that for the back and sides. Very happy with it, forms a nice rubbery sort of finish and no doubt will keep things nice and dry. Getting behind it wasn't so much fun (especially after all them mince pies at Christmas...) Now as I have so much of this gear left over. I am tempted to coat the roof too (currently has felt on it but not the greatest quality) so keen to do what I can to prolong the life of it. My question is, if I coat the roof in this stuff. Come summer will the loft get too hot??? (Remember this bitumen paint is black). Any info/guidance much appreciated. Cheers, Pete
walterboswell59 Posted January 13, 2015 Report Posted January 13, 2015 great stuff pete but only problem with putting it on the roof is when the sun beats down on it in summer it becomes tacky and the birds get it all over them better to slap it on then put another roll of cheap felt on top m8
