Theres two sides to every story. First of all if the one loft has circovirus as Kenny has told his clubmates. An Airbourne virus which can be carried. He is then travelling from there to attend to his own racers with the same clothes and footwear as hes wearing at the one loft race. As reported there is no BIO-SECURITY ie:foot baths at the one loft race, then his own racers are going on to the transporter with other members pigeons. Ask yourselves WOULD YOU WANT YOUR PIGEONS HAVING A HIGHER THAN NORMAL RISK TO A POTENTIALLY LETHAL VIRUS?? I certainly wouldnt... Kenny may be a nice guy, but lets get real here......

thought it was only young birds that could catch that circovirus as by the time they are old birds there imunity has built up a defence

I feel from what i have read here that Yes fair enough Kenny has a problem in the lofts - Find me a fancier who never has any ailment at all in his loft - and i will show you a liar or at the very least someone with the ignorance or lack of knowledge to admit or know there is a problem.

 

How many fanciers send their pigeons knowing there is a problem in there loft or not know about the problem as the case may be, some will send birds knowing full well there is a problem but of course it will be kept quiet and continue to treat and send at the same time.

 

From what i see this is a chap who has a problem has been open and honest about it and is obviously combating it to the best of his ability and is now getting persecuted for his honesty. Maybe next time kenny you would be best keeping any problems to yourself and just missing the racing whilst you regain the health of the birds (it seems honesty is not the best policy)

 

Its all well and good talking about bio security being in place but i am sure Kenny has been careful with everything he has done between the lofts as any fancier would .

 

I hope You manage to obtain a vets certificate for your old birds stating they are in the clear and then take the fed on and win, this is something i would not let drop until i have the conclusion i am seeking.

 

Is there any word on the SHU's feelings on this matter yet?

I believe they did have a word with Kenny. Reply: Ach old birds canny catch it. Thats why I posted on this subject as My birds are in the same transporter. As I said earlier theres 2 sides to every story, I know what side I'd prefer my birds to be on.

Bart you maybe correct but an illness that old birds can sustain may transfer to your OWN youngsters. Replied to you out of courtesy, now Ive said all on the subject, good luck to all in the one loft race.

Think this has far wider implications. Not so sure that circovirus is an airborne disease, more likely that it was brought in by one of the competitors birds or a visitor = Issue of initial quarantine of competitors birds and biosecurity for visitors - when the loft was disease-free. Circovirus is the equivalent of the human AIDS virus, it affects a lot more than YBs, so its serious.

 

Issue of quarantine of birds falling sick to prevent disease spread within the affected loft;

 

Issue of suspending all visits to a loft with sick birds in it; and person in charge seeking professional assistance from an avian vet.

 

Issue of person (s) looking after this loft and another loft (s). Requires strict biosecurity arrangements at all the lofts to prevent transfer of disease between them.

 

Issue of where this infection originated - another loft (s) out there with a similar problem??? Have all competitors been notified in writing, and what are THEY doing about their own lofts of pigeons? Seems inappropriate to me to stop one loft flying for a season while others which may be harbouring the source of the original infection are still flying. Could be a form of victimisation?

 

No wonder the issue of regulation of One Loft Races was to the fore last couple of years. Regulation seemed to be all race-based though. What formal procedures are in place to deal with a disease outbreak at one of these lofts?

THE VETS WERE CALLED IN A WHILE AGO , AND IT WAS UNDER CONTROL THEN ,

AS THE MAN SAYS THE LOFTS ARE 2 MILE AWAY FROM HIS OWN LOFT AND THE MAN IIN QUESTION KENNY BALD HAS KEPT PIGEONS FOR YUNKS  HE IS NOT GOING TO GO TO HIS OWN LOFT AND NOT WASH UP BEFORE HAND ,AND AS ALF SAYS THE APPROPRIATE STEPS HAVE BEEN TAKEN AT THE LOFT BY THE VETS , WITH ALL ASPECTS OF SECURITY

I have no desire to load anyones gun and i wont fire any bullets either someone elses or my own, the man is having bad luck and although i am short of the facts from what bit of information i have seen on the site he is trying to combat the problem.

 

Maybe if the Midlothian Fed is that intent on banning people for being honest about having a problem they should go and random test other members race teams to see if there birds are healthy and free of problems and take a similar course of action.

One loft races have been a great idea from the fact that fanciers get an honest chance to race against each other and the race conducted by Kenny has been highly successful but while we can all sit back and wait and watch he has been landed with a ton of bricks on his lap. I think as has been said it is now important to find out where the virus came from I have read it is a virus affecting pigs,are there any piggeries close by or on the ground where the lofts are built, a soil sample may be worthwhile. I hope Kenny gets to the bottom of the problem, him today us tomorrow!

i would just like to add that i have been talking to Kenny since Blackpool and i think he is a great guy  and anyone thats has known him for a while would have noticed the change in him as the guy has been worried sick about the 1 loft doos and husnae been eating and has some amount of weight!!!
