As far as I know the Stray Centre is now up Grangemouth way.

Yes, it is at Armadale, West Lothian (near Bathgate). Operates during YB season only, and so closes in 2 weeks.

it is used weekly during yb season to return scottish strays to their owners. transporters or volunteers collect strays from their own area take them to the stray centre and collect any strays for their own area. i think the shu charge £2.35 per bird and the feds then add their own cost. a lot cheaper than amtrack!! thought the rpra could have something organised. shu lead the way again

They obviously dont check for wing stamps at the stray centre that's for sure as i Dundee y/b i had bred for me that was clearly stamped with my club and fed ( on both wings )has ended up being sent back to Dundee at the weekend :( :( :( :( :(

talking about the stray centre at armadale, not the best place for your young birds to end up, not a lot of ventilation there also birds are kept in the dark all the time, unless there has been windows or roof lights been added lately not a very cool place, i think that it gets quite hot for the birds.

Up North Combine is the same - telephone number rings on - and nobody phones - they're supposed to return these youngsters to the clubs - but what do they do? Put them up at the next race point - they'll tell you they don't though - not one youngster has been returned to our club via the transporter this young bird season and at a rough estimate - the club is one third missing (200+ birds)

I've never been to the SHU stray centre so cannot comment on facilities. But it is just a sorting & distribution centre used for 6 weeks in the year - YBs arrive on Friday night, and go back out to their Federations on the Saturday -so there's surely not a lot needed for that?

If it were developed to be all year round, and holding birds for a week at a time, then yes, you would need to make sure ventilation etc was spot-on.

They are supposed to look at wing stamp and ring number. There was a letter out last year? on that, there was also a letter out on GB 'Scottish Clubs' pigeons too last year, accepted provided wingstamped, but the Centre refused to accept GB pigeons from our Fed this year, so maybe not doing as much as its supposed to?

It would seem the stray centre is not all that its cracked  up to be , with no light and no ventilation how does the birds see to drink and where can the fresh air come from , i see a post here the S.H.U.  lead the way again , i don,t think so if thats the conditions they are kept in , rspca may want to look in to that one i would think

How would you like to be locked up in the dark ,and could not find the water to drink ,

along with the stenge of the crap , again all depends on the time they are shut up for in there , i would hope its not 2or 3 days

Ive collected from the stray centre a couple of times and for what it is,its ok.

If anyone can do better, put your ideas forward to the SHU and next year the job could be yours.

We only get what we pay for.

Lets just be thankfull that the stray centre is there for us,  :) i wouldnt, and like most of the fanciers like to keep forking out £30 to have a bird picked up every time it gets reported.

The both strays i have had back this year, there has been nothing wrong with them, they just made the mistake like a lot of young birds doo.

So people should not comment on nothing they no anything about.  :X :X

blackswan,

The above has been on the forum before, all he was trying to doo was to try and get members to bite to his accusations, i dont think he is even a member of any federation, also i dont no if he keeps pigeons.

So blackswan, sling yer hook.
