JohnQuinn Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Instead of us giving to the very deserving charities that we support, should we not start a PB fund for the sole aim of getting enough Tracking devices onto our racers as possible, maybe 200 or so to start with, that will tell us without a shadow of a doubt what happens to our birds en route from race point to loft, OR NOT!!???
peter2010 Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 I think that could be a good idea as we need to try and find out whats happening out there as it has me baffiled and there is so much hard work and effort being put in to racing by everyone involved
Novice Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 Are we talking really sophisticated devices here? As far as I am aware the ones sold by Gem required the bird to return home to download the information onto a P.C.I know someone who has done this in the past and found that there were irregularities in the path his bird took which he explained as hawk avoidance.

Guest bobbyg Posted June 24, 2014 Report Posted June 24, 2014 The SHU have already paid for a survey to be done with Dr. Lynch, Geddes & Hillis and a lad from Stirling by the name of Lafferty. This survey was the compiled and published.

If I remember correctly the hawk which was shot by a fancier about 2 years ago was fitted with one.
