Delboy Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I had a stock pair locked up in there box until the hen laid. I do this with older cocks to guarantee fertilisation of eggs, any way, the cock is blue and the hen bch and to my amazement the 2 ybs are red ch. The hens dam is a red ch but I don't know about throw backs etc being true. If I was putting these ybs into an auction folk would question their parentage because of there colour.Im bamboozled as no other cock could tread the hen.ps. the other birds in the section are either ch or blues???? My conclusion is, throw backs do happen!!

billt Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 There was a similar post from Owen only last week where he said he had a Rd youngster in the nest from a Bl. Ch. x Bl. with no reds in the section and no family history, as you say you'd feel a bit Iffy advertising them.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 I couldn't burden you with them m8, ill just persevere with them lol. Derek, I'm just as local as the Higg, so I'll take them off your hands. :D

My conclusion is, throw backs do happen!!Have a blue walkingshaw cock and a darker chq walkingshaw hen and they have either a blue and a red or a chq and a red in every nest .The only 2 colours i have always breed the same from are 2 blues , i have always had blues every time . P S the darker chq hen g sire is a red cock , when i say shes a darker chq she is not a light chq but not a true dark chq as such .
Novice Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 There is a pigeon genetics group on Face Book. It might be a worthwhile exercise to raise this subject on there.
Michael J Burden Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Impossible most likely opals which on occasion look like mealy or reds
Smithy1 Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Reds from that mating must be hens. Shouldnt be reds from that mating at all owen but as Delboy says it must be throw back..so why do you think they must be hens ??
Guest Cawdy Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Shouldnt be reds from that mating at all owen but as Delboy says it must be throw back..so why do you think they must be hens ?? dont think you can garuntee that they will be hens as the locus of the alelle causing it is unknown. and am no 100% but dont think a throw back is possible as ash red is dominant. so might be another similar looking ressecive mutation or dbout it but could be a new mutation ??? Del can you see the pattern of the yb yet ?

Del can you see the pattern of the yb yet ? Cant see the pattern yet m8 but looks very light red ch or even strawberry mealy?? wont know for few days and I agree with everything you've said regarding mutation. As I said before its impossible any other way imo. Are these 2 birds related Derek?? Not related John, cock is son of George Carteus world famous CARTIER and the hen is off SPIDER x dtr of PEGGY.
JohnQuinn Posted March 3, 2014 Report Posted March 3, 2014 Was thinking that perhaps the recessive Red may have been passed to both parents through family genetics, but obviously not, so am sshtumped as well .
