THE FIFER Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 as most of the country are getting wet or snow a lot just now, how are you managing your lofts, does the old birds get out much if at all , any special treatment looking after the youngsters, etc
andyyy Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 I have 49 young parted, they get out most days for the last week or two, old birds haven't been out in a while will start having them out in the next week or so. No special treatment atm, just plenty of corn and pellets atb with the breeding guys.
andy Burgess Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 only stock paired ,roof repaired just before , have some Perspex over lower part of window until good weather arrives (if ?) racers will go out in a week or so .they have straw to build nest , all that should be good enough .
JohnQuinn Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Seen an intetesting thing the other day in Coatbridge. 2 young streeters sitting on top of a shop's shutters and a hen sitting on a nest a few feet along from them. The Ck came and landed on the groind and both squeakers went to ground chasing him around to be fed. What was remarkable was the condition of the Yb's who were so clean and healthy they looked like they had been reared in a loft, makes me wonder why we fuss over our birds who get the best of grub in dry lofts built to the highest standards. I have 11 pairs with Yb's in the nest who are all doing well without the slightest change in the section/feeding/routine of the loft. I do have 3 nests with only 1 egg hatched but there could be any number of reasons for that. Jmo.

Kyleakin Lofts Posted February 12, 2014 Report Posted February 12, 2014 Stock all paired, but eggs slow in arriving. Only two pair sitting. Hopefully the other four pair will go down soon.

I would guess early rather than late, despite dreadful conditions in some parts its been very reasonable around here so they may well have paired and hatched already. Seen 4 woooy's on the roof this morning when I had my hens out. Not sure if it was 2 pairs or 1 pair with Yb's.
