Hands Full Or Rings.

Got in from work tonight and my wee mam said she had received a strange phone call. Some guy with a Northumberland accent called the house looking for me, said he had his hands full of pigeon rings, told her one of the rings was SU 10 NE 40, he also said he got them from the falcons nest, she said to the guy i was working but if he left his number i would call back as soon as i got in, he hung up the phone!!!

 

What's your best guess??

John SU10 NE 40 is my doo she topped the fed from battle last year 480 mile I lost her from battle this year on the 30th of June . I thought something must of happened to her the reason she was,nt home . Thanks for posting this and letting me know Robbie

Well what i took from it was that he was in some way involved in the protection of Bops, how else would he have got the rings from a nest?? Hance he widnae leave his number Davy. That's what i made of it anyway.

Del I the strange thing about it she has been nailed before she came home from Perth 2 year ago with her neck ripped open how she got home in the state she was in puzzled me a game wee hardy hen fckin bop .just shows you when you lose a good doo you know something has happened to it

I think more likely a pigeon man and can see why he wouldn't leave a number, Can't see any interest from the protection group they already know we supply the majority of their diet and should be very grateful

Strange wan alright ...but i would be wantin to know how he got ur mams number?? Do you race birds from there or have a stamp/phone clip ring with ur mams number. If so that number was taken from same nest ...then one of urs is in that handfull.

 

Robbies bird an unlucky one ..but atleast ye know what happened.

Makes no sense. NE rings aren't Lanarkshire Fed rings, and in any case it is the Secy's contact number that's in the ring books.

 

I also reckon that the caller withheld his name & number to protect his identity - Joe Public isn't allowed near peregrine nests, nor any wild bird nest for that matter. I had a similar call years ago when my number was had from a telephone ring found in same circumstances. I was told not to divulge who called or where the rings were found. I posted up the ring numbers on the forum, and reported them to SHU.

 

I remember it well because I was disappointed in the sole reply to my post - were there no ets rings found? One of my YBs had met its end and as it had been in company with another that was reported by a member of the public (who had kept a loft of fantails until she was wiped out by sparrowhawks), I was interested in what happened to my birds, just like the owner of this NE bird, not bloody rings.

Aye MIK, ma doos have always been at ma mam's and that's the number i use when dealing with Pigeons. I do have phone number rings on my Yb's so maybe got my number from that. Not sure if he asked for me by name or just had a number for me, will need to clear that one up.

RSPB members are told when they find any rings at or around bops nests to pick

Them up and dispose of them and that's fact.
