We all know something is affecting our birds more than it used to but after reading delboys comments on sat about birds not knowing what they were doing when returning from the race my ybs are going to pot , I let them out yesterday where they flew for a bit then came down and had a bath and lazed around all day but when I went to call them in at 6.00 they took to the sky and flew all bloody night and for the second time in a couple of weeks they stayed out all night and came back in 1 and2s and I am still 15 missing which includes 3 that was at the race on sat!

I was here all day and they showed no sign of fear or anything but just would not land .after dropping 10 on sat now this happening I like many others are just not enjoying what is supposed to be a hobby not a f,n full time job .

have you noticed the birds stareing into space keep an eye on them there is a hidden illness that your birds may have a lot of what u said aims at this illness another thing to watch out for if you had great control over your birds before and all of a sudden they just ignore you but stareing into space is another thing that they may show

I have always raced young birds and I quite enjoy young bird racing but I keep reading of prominent fanciers who categorically state that they never race their birds until they are yearlings does any of the site experts have an opinion?.

I spent many an hour with Bernard De-Weerdt when he visited England and he told me the following.

The family rear and put on darkness a young bird team and at the end of young bird racing all are sold.

At the end of old bird racing the race team rear a team of latebreds which are used to race out to 150 miles as yearlings the following year. They are raced no further than 300 miles as 2 year olds and at 3 are sent to Barcelona due to the fact they are late developers.

I think this is my way from now on , I have 14 yearling left that have had a race or more this year only 4 raced as ybs the rest were only basket trained(feed &drink) so who knows .

If it was possible not to race youngsters I think I and many would jump at it....plus if there was no young bird racing it may help the bop situation

para geo and when the stress hits the birds all s hit breaks loose

the birds first stop responding to your call when out flying then they fly stupid as in flying out at night times stareing into space when racing starts or other kinds of stress they fall apart

birds kept in non stress conditions as in never raced it very hard to see

but they will look perfect from the outside and healthy

this can be carried from your stock though the egg even
