when in my hut sunday morning and saw three birds not right had young bird sickness the week before treated them by not feeding them for 36 hours.then building them up with a diet mix and aviform 7 in 1 in the water.they looked great after six days.but three days later three not right moved to a section on they own.when in the hut this morning one of the three was dead and then when into the other section that had young bird sickness. one had thrown corn up over night moved it out straight away and cleaned it up before the others saw it.when in before it got light so saw it before the birds so just to see if you can get it twice.started to treat for it again today pulling the last of my hair out any ideas

yes they can get it twice i would not remove any birds leave together and let it run its course i believe when you remove birds that are already ill you put too much stress on the birds by moving them from the environement they know best of luck

what you treating them with mate? i would put them on nyfuramycin for 3 days as it looks like you have got a secondry infection, i would then follow up with nystatin for a further 3 days, if the birds are not drinking, syringe 10mls down there throat twice a day (nyfura) then 2 droplets of nystan 4 times a day,j.m.o, hope you get them sorted.

mate there are guys who say do this and do that and its up to you which advice you take.ybs can return any time the birds are stressed.i think once the birds are yearlings then it shouldnt come back but there are no guarantees.you just need to be on the watch for it.be suspicious if droppings are wet in the loft floor for more than a day.birds returning from flying can have the odd wet dropping but you should be able to tell whats what if your in the loft every day.my only advice for ybs is a proper coarse of antibiotics but i know you racing guys dont like this method and its with very good reason as the birds can get the stuffing knocked out of them if its the racing season.the vets call this adeno-coli.bacteria+virus only one diagnosis for it in my opinion.some people think its in with the fittings of the loft other think its carried in the birds i dont know but it really is a pain in the butt of a thing having to remove birds to other sections a switching birds around so not to spread it.

Last year i went in loft, one week after mixing birds from others...what i saw was a complete mess of boke and loose droppings. Straight away on starve for 24 hrs and i gave every yb a charcoal tablet. Next day after cleaning the black slop up they went onto Bi-carb of soda in water....

light feed of barley next night..thought i would let it run its course(i was wrong) within a week of sickness i lost 18 all disposed off cuz they got that bad(secondary infections kicked in).

after disposing of 18 i sent to Vet for help ...got meds and after a 2 week treatment period all was well..

5 days Quinoxil( broad spectrum anti-biotic)

5 days Nystatin( for yeast/candida)

5 days vitamins/probiotic by my own doing.

Bottom line is "IT DOESNT BENEFIT TO LET RUN COURSE" unless your willing to stop racing and bin half if not more of your loft...the secondarys are the killer.

thanks for replys one of the lads came round to see if he was able to help very nice of him.he check a few of the worse over and said i needed a broad spectrum antibiotics.i got some and put it in the water when in the loft this morning early before it got light to see if any more corn was thrown up or any more were dead.i got a nice surprise no corn thrown up or dead and the droppings looked back to normal or is just hopeful thinking on my part.I will do as he as told me with it for a few days and hope it gets it sorted.then it comes right i will know what to look out for if it happens again.but thanks again to yous for keeping right

make sure you give them the 7 day course mate.they should look well within a day or two but dont let that fool you.7 days and then probiotics.

take notice-funny smell in loft-keep them on broad spec for at least 5 days-make sure you get probiotics plus multivits into them after this i also added honey to water-got mine back training now but as you say no hair left also 2 youngbirds less, one was our lasses pouter youngbird.

Ovy if there is a smell in the loft produced from the droppings, 9/10 times I would say you have a yeast infection it's a tale tale sign.

young bird sickness can kill adult birds as well as youngsters.seems there is 19 different strains so its no wonder they can get it twice.also there is type 1 and a type 2 which is the deadly one.not much hope for any pigeon that comes down with the type 2.

i and it seems as if you,ve had most of them according to your posts

well the vet told me i probably had the type 2 as when i bought some racing pigeons thats when it all started to go wrong.lost all my fancy norwich croppers, most of my stock of horseman pouters all adults and youngsters.that following breeding season i was losing youngsters to wattery green/yellow droppings.i decided to do what ALL pigeon fanciers should do and consult a proper pigeon vetenarian.(deweerd)this got me a proper diagnosis and its now sorted.when something goes wrong with my birds i find out exactly whats wrong with the birds and how to treat them.i do swat up on anything that could be running my pigeons down and since i got all the birds stolen ive never had the type 2 return although i did see a bit of ybs return this breeding season and it was all new birds in the loft.this was treated straight away with adenosan.so although with all my knowlege of it i still returned but wasnt deadly.its easily treated but seems all you racing men also seem to be moaning about it returning every year.as i have also said before anyone who takes up the advice of starving birds for 24 hours and charcoal tabs and what not if it works for you then thats good but a bacterial infection and a viral infection CANNOT be cured this way in my opinion.i can only talk for myself and my experience and anyone who doesnt like it can just disreguard it.i dont pay for your racing pigeon or feed them and if they all die due to improper advice from people on this site then thats your desicion.
