Guest ljb107 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 What has a dog got to do with being a pigeon fancier? I've got 2 ckc spaniels. It how you bring them up that matters.
yeboah Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 That would be a wonderful choice walter, My late father had them when he was the gamekeeper wonderful faithful friends ,No rats no cats no worries. The one i have at present goes into the loft when i tend the pigeons it has a look in the nest boxes to see all is well the pigeons have become very attached and dont bother about it walking in the loft ,roxy had a staffy as a mother and a rodession ridgeback as a father i will show you its cats lookout trick next time you are down atb with your choice .
bibendium Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 I have a border collie , he is great with the doos and they dont seem proturbed by his presence in the least.

sapper756 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 My wee cocker spaniel comes into the lofts now and again, and sticks her head into the nest boxes and sniffs the youngsters, birds do not seem to be too concerned, and she does them no harm.

Guest ljb107 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 Thank you I wpuld never have thought of that When you work with dogs 5 days a week you get a good idea of what breeds are nice and what ones are a bit iffy haha.
Guest Owen Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 The breed of dog does not matter it is how you train it. I have always liked working dogs because they will usually give you loyalty.I really dislike the bull breeds because I believe them to be unnatural. They are usually very corupt in the way that they will suck up to anybodyand I am sure that the fact that they want to kill and injure other animals for fun is the sign of them being lunitics.
sharkfin Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 I have two cane corso's great with the doo's which are great deterants against two legged rats & cats and big babies with the family
geordie1234 Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 My bedlington as a pup was a pain in the doos *expletive removed* but once he was trained he was brand new in and out the lofts with me doos never bothered.

Guest stb- Posted October 4, 2012 Report Posted October 4, 2012 (edited) What has a dog got to do with being a pigeon fancier? I've got 2 ckc spaniels. It how you bring them up that matters.not all the time , ive had about 20 jack russels over 30 yrs and 18 have been brill way doos , 2 of them however would have slaughtered every bird in the loft if they got in and would go out of there way to find ways to get into birds pigeons rabbit hutches etc , just out and out killers , great with kids and people but bad with any other animal including dogs apart from the dogs they were brought up with . But as you say most dogs are ok if brought up rite but theres some you will never change if its in there nature Edited October 4, 2012 by stb-
