KMCK Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 With the season now in full flow for a lot of us and losses now mounting up we find ourselfs in the position of having lots of empty perches so how many have you lost so far we started training with about 35 racers now were at about 10 or so left and you read the same online that people are getting hammered week in week out so what you got left for racing with and do you see yourself getting the distance
Guest Owen Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 i am having a crazy season because I am winning races but I have dropped 10 really good young cocks. Most of these yearling cocks have scored in the Fed as youngsters which makes it all the more baffling.
REDCHEQHEN Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 1 lost in training 3 missing from yesterdays race 1 missing from the week before I have had 5 races altogether - so I suppose my losses are minimal(started off with 42)
just ask me Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 i am having a crazy season because I am winning races but I have dropped 10 really good young cocks. Guest IB Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Yesterday was my 4th race, the first over 100 miles. I dropped 4 up to yesterday, and I've 2 missing from yesterday. 2 are 2 y-o's, 2 are latebreds not trained or raced last year and 2 are yearlings that flew YB programme last year.
Guest mi5lyn Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 went to the first race with 11 latebreds from jos in motherwell we are now 5 races on still got all 11 out to 185 miles.
alex young Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Dropped 3 two weeks ago in a very bad race,2 yearlings both won prizes as y/b's and a winning 2 year old who I had high hopes for.
Wiley Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Dropped only the one was gutted dropped him to be honest as he topped the fed as a baby and even took a 6th prize and 19th fed This season had high hopes for him especially as he was a yearling.
dc84 Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 very strange indeed you would think if your winning races you would be getting good returns thought it was a funny race yesterday myself got some upfront that i did not expect to get pigeons i think ill try to give up to understand them lolsame here pigeons that are normally behind was 1st
eastcoaster Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Lost 15 in total 8 racing 2 to the sparrowhawk and the rest training but did expect a few losses as my yearling (or 90%)were never even in a basket as ybs
Guest big slim Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 So far weve been very lucky . 4 races and only lost one late bred cock yesterday. Long may it continue.
seaforth Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Started with 11 wid cocks and still got them all the last 1 bak this morning. Been 4 races but still many more 2 go. Lets hope the wind changes!!!

big blue bar Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 we have only dropped one this year so far a late bred cock .thats the last time i m taking latebreds they re a waste of time ( in my opinion before i get all the coments about latbreds that have won )
yeboah Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Got of to a really bad start with training being hit by the falcon first toss from 10 mls got hit and came home in singles 6 on the night with 16 missing from ten bloody miles they did work in all day the next but still lost birds, sent 2 only to first race 100% there, missed 2nd race 3rd race dropped 3 from 13 Yesterday lost one unraced yearling one raced yearling and one very well raced 6yo all cocks dropped 7 hens from 19 funny thing here was most had raced all yearlings yet the one's that were away for there first ever race 140 mls homed really well apart from two ,My timer a late bred yearling cock first ever race how can you follow that ,honestly believe nowadays its pure luck if your doos in the batches that get constantly struck or in the one's that get lucky, one thing is for certain if you keep sending your best one it will go down eventually .
john cumming Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 started with 38, 3 injured and wont race again this year, 1 reported dead, got 26 left to race so 8 missing, one thing i have noticed and more and more fanciers saying they hardly ever get a bird reported nowadays??? john
JohnQuinn Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Only 1 short from yesterday now, dropped 1 last week and 2 the week before so 4 down from 4 races. Losses do not upset me anyway, something has to give to make room for the Yb's coming through, best we can hope for is that the doos who have won for us or are targeted for the channel survive these early races.
geordie1234 Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 Started with 2 cocks I inherited at the new loft and managed to break 7 yearlings a week before the first race I jumped them in at the second longtown and lost 3 I put this down to the birds being nowhere near ready and my inexperience. Been to three races and only dropped those three
dava Posted May 13, 2012 Report Posted May 13, 2012 started with 56 for racing lost 1 at the first race 100% returns the second and third race dropped 3 yesterday out of a big team sent but there was 2 nice hens i had high hopes for down yesterday :(
bluecock Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 had dropped 6 now 5 yearling cock dropped at 3.30 this afternoon.,never seen anything like it before,it's tonguge was hanging out of it's mouth, inside it was all swollen up and couldn't get it's tongue back in,hopefully the swellen will go down, how it's made it home is beyond me,
