PATTY BHOY Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 What are members thoughts on ETS rings and ordinary clock rubbers. Will ETS rings be made compulsory in the next few years or will there always be rubbers for clocks.Jusst thinking of lofts that have no electricity near buy.
PIGEON_MAN Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 Personally I dont think ETS will ever be made compulsory, would think there are still a big % of fanciers still using clocks and rubbers, even in Belgium they still rubber the birds in some of the big races weather you are using ETS or not.You dont need electricity near by to run a ETS system.they will run off a battery pack or car battery.

PIGEON_MAN Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 We have people in our club that have gone back to using rubbers on their young birds, nobody as had their ETS clocks long enough yet to have to replace the batteries will be another shock for them.
andy Burgess Posted January 12, 2012 Report Posted January 12, 2012 dont think it will ever be made compulsary ,you cant over-ride peoples freedom of choice .
Dooheed 5 Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 I feel really sorry for our clocksetter in our club with the amount of problems he has had with our ets system over the past year or so ! an absolute nightmare he is getting no help from the ets or software company. if this continue's i wouldnt be suprised if we go back to rubbers

I hardly ever miss a bird coming home but do like the way that no bird is frightened by some giant ape trying to catch them in a state of excitement!!!! Also I would not get in the first ten in my club if manual clocking against ETS! I try my best to limit the amount of ETS rings lost on Ybs by leaving it to the last minute to register after training but still head to the first race with 30+!
JohnQuinn Posted January 13, 2012 Report Posted January 13, 2012 Some of you may know that i am on the SHU rules committee, the compulsory use of ETS has been discussed and there is no chance of this becoming a rule. The sport is in enough decline (numbers wise) without trying to impose extra costs on those who wish to use a traditional timing clocks.

Guest Tooshy Boy Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 E.T.S. IS JUST A BIG RIP OF THEY HAVE GOT YOU WHERE THEY WANT YOU .ALL THEY DOO IS HELP THERE SELVES.//

Pompey Mick Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 I'm afraid the majority of Pigeon Fanciers only want to spend their money willingly on either pigeons or products that they think will make their birds fly faster, anything else is a 'rip-off'.If you compare the price of ETS rings to all the other costs involved in the sport of pigeon racing then they are but a small part of the overall expenditure. It's a poor state of affairs when fanciers worry more about the cost of an ETS ring when a pigeon is lost than they do about the pigeon. I am about to enter the real world of a State pension existence and I shall be carefully managing the cost of my pigeons and I shall downsize quite readily to accommodate any costs I will incur including ETS costs. The use of ETS in pigeon racing has really professionlised the way Clubs work, electronic marking and checking has speeded up Club House procedures to a point where every member wants to 'push the buttons'.Admittedly there is administration work to be done, but as with any other computer based operation once the data is in, that is it.ETS will never be made compulsory, only by natural progression, as the market for clocks and rubbers decrease then there will be difficulty in sourcing and repairing these items at reasonable cost to the point of ETS being a viable alternative cost-wise.
greenlands Posted January 14, 2012 Report Posted January 14, 2012 If my memory serves me right I think rubbers were £18/20 a 1,000 last season,I see they are now £30.Is that because less people are using them ,the cost of production or just trying their best to make us realise that ETS is the way to go. Then once the majority are using ETS wait and see what the manufacturers can really do when they have you by the short and curly's. As Mick says he's about to enter the real word,State pension, not much fun mate,I've been on it(single male) for a while. Not enough to fill the fuel tank on the car. Lindsay
just ask me Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 be only a matter of time before everyone is on ets its the way the sport is going
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted January 19, 2012 Report Posted January 19, 2012 DONT THINK SO MANY USING RUBBERS ON YOUNG BIRDS .E.T.S. ARE JUST TO GREEDY .///
