Just started working out how much we have left for prize money in our club and was wondering how other clubs work their prize money out, basically we charge x amount in the club to send our birds each week ie.50p all inland races,£2.50 for the first 2 channel races and £3.oo for the last 2,our Fed then charges us x amount per bird for transporting them and whatevers left goes as prize money the same amount for each race.Although we lost on a couple of inland races ie fed charge was 60p+63p we finished up doing quite good for old birds.Young birds are worked out the same but separated from the old birds, not looking to good at the moment as charges were quite high 76p one inland race and the channel race was £2.50 so broke even on that one.

racing isnt about the prize money give me a red card every time.

Eh I think the guy was only asking for some feedback?

Hi Pigeon man, fly in same Fed, we pay 70p inland and £2-20 over the water, dont know what the percentage is but I can find out if you want?

Wish the birdage was cheaper, do you know how much the Fed charges? Also do they charge by bird or by the basket?

Regards, W.D.

Club charges 50p a pigeon of which around 33p goes to the Fed (this depends on how many pigeons we put in a crate as Fed charge per crate) so 50p - 33p = 17p per pigeon goes to the prize money. We total up all the prize money then divide it by the amount of races held............. this is then divided into 4 prizes per race paid out 40% for a 1st, 30% for a 2nd, 20% for a 3rd and 10% for a 4th.

THOUGHT THAT WAS FEED BACK.our club charges whatever the fed charges per basket so no money is made on basket charges so if the baskets are full [25 bird limit inland]the price per bird this season i think was 52p think its £13 to send a basket.

Do you have pools if no prize money?

Yeah we have 10p - £2 pools. Also £2 nom if winner of race, if not £2's roll over. Would still have loved to have seen prizemoney

I think the easiest way is for a club to charge members an entry fee of say £2 which is split between the first 3/4/5 doos in the race, however many it takes to make it worth while winning that is.

Big clubs can pay out say the first 6, with the smaller clubs 3 or something like that. I believe the financial reward should be there for every race, much as i love getting a Red ticket, they don't buy feeding. jmo.

Agree 100%

I was wanting a bonus ball type thing every week with £1 per num, £30 a week to winner and £19 a week to prize money. But never got much interest sadly (members) :emoticon-0179-headbang:

In our club - there are different charges for each type of race

Every race carries points for the first 5 in each race

Every combine race has prize money (and this is worked out for each race 'as it happens')

The combine race prize money is paid out the following week as is the pool money - the points money is paid out at the presentation

The club runs a football card each week on basket day (and these are also run on a Wednesday in a local club)

The club also has 'a loft draw' which is compulsory and costs £2 a week during the racing season. There are 2 x £10 prizes each week, (each loft has 2 numbers)

Points money is £2 a point (and you also get £1 for a 6th - 10th position in each race) every member also gets £10 'for taking part' so every member gets an envelope on presentation evening, even if they have no points (and only one member this year with nil points)

The top 5 lofts in the club donate a young bird (and sometimes some well known local top fancier also donates) and these are auctioned at the presentation evening. These youngsters also have a breeder buyer race as young birds - prize money £25 breeder £25 buyer. There is a raffle at the presentation evening - this usually pays the expenses of the evening (buffet etc) there are around 25 raffle prizes, and this usually raises a few hundred pounds.

The presentation evening is open to club members (2 free tickets, members from other clubs and also members of the social club can join in after the presentation (£3 a ticket, includes buffet)although there has been a slight decline in numbers the last year or two - 3 years ago it was a 'full house' with 150 people at the presentation,

so how much does it cost to send 10 birds at your clubs after you pay for all the extras--if a young fancier was to join our club or a pensioner he can fly his birds at a reasonable cost if he wants to fly for money he can pool his birds butracing is made as cheap as possible ----i think this is the main point.

i have watched some clubs who adopt this practice of making money out of birdage and the top man takes all the money and the next season suddenly at the agm all the other members are proposed for a job with pay so the same top guy doesnt take all the money .

IMO race first pool if you want to gamble.

to send 10 birds would cost £8.50 in non combine races and no pool money (pools are not compulsory)

it would cost £12.50 for 10 birds for Folkestone (for instance)

we don't have any 'top guys' in our club - we have several really good ones - 20 members in club - and at least 10 different members won races this year

racing isnt about the prize money give me a red card every time.

I used to think that way years ago but with the price of things these days and the way things are its nice to be able to win some money back to pay for everything.

provided we have full baskets 10birds will cost u £5.20 if the baskets go away with only 20 in then it will be just over £6 pools are optional.each member pays at the beginning of the season the secs wages and the treasurers wages-the grand sum of £5 each member for both men for the whole season so thats 5 for the sec 5 for the treasurer from each of us.our club is not about the money its all about the racing.

last year one of our members took the W.D.AMAL sprint champion this year another of our members from what i have been told takes the fed young bird averages and also the combined averages

the club has only 9 lofts but only seven flew this year.two lofts fly their birds on there own no help whatsoever both 70plus and they take some beating--------so whatever works for your club ,ours works great and i am proud of our club and its members plus our performances this year.

by the way all but 1[non flyer at the moment]have bought their own ets system, i sort out assignment of the ets rings etc.
