sapper756 Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Since June is only a matter of days away, I would like members who put their youngsters on the darkness system, share with others, what date they take them off. I have heard fanciers say the 1st of June is the best date.Others say the 13th June. And others say the date of the first full moon in June, which happens to be the 15th this year. Lets hear your views. Thank You
Ian McKay Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Kingslea One Loft Birds will be about 15 June :emoticon-0140-rofl:
andy Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 The beginning of June is fine if your racing to the 2nd weekend in September, although remember to lighten from mid/third week in July through to Sept, then revert back to normal daylight hours, complete rest and let nature take over..
dal2 Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Mine will be off next week. THANK THE LORD. deffo the last year(say this every year)
greenlands Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Will start to take mine off in about two week at a half a hour extra daylight each night/morning.
Tony C Posted May 26, 2011 Report Posted May 26, 2011 Around the 2nd or 3rd week in June, no fixed date. If we get a couple of days of bad weather between these dates thats when they'll come of the dark.

budgie Posted May 27, 2011 Report Posted May 27, 2011 Look at the youngsters that will determine when you take them of it
alex young Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 The last couple of years on darkness I've only had them on it for 8 weeks max but noticed the youngsters paired quickly when taking them off. This season they are still on the dark and no sign of pairing yet.In the past I've had them lay before racing starts as I only have one section for youngsters and can't split them.I like them to have a nest but found they are keener on the first nest and will sit a lot longer on overdue eggs,so get a few good weeks out of them on the nesting cycle.I will take them off the dark on the 15th June and see how it goes.
