Guest m.bollington Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 what are the benfits of using tobacco stalks as nesting material is it just the same as using straw?
yorkshirelad Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 what are the benfits of using tobacco stalks as nesting material is it just the same as using straw?I think that the tobacco stalks help prevent mites attacking the birds especially the youngster who cannot get away from them

Guest m.bollington Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 dont think i will be using them then i normally just use straw and a bit of wood shavings but somebody said i shuld get tobacco stalks he said he would never use straw because it's bad for the young birds coz it's not clean also i think tobacco stalks are very expensive for what they are i will just use nest felts i think cheers guys
big blue bar Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 i used them last year for the first time and had no problems ,i m going to use them again this year .
sapper756 Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 Only ever used them once, and as stated already, lost some eggs due to slipping through to the bottom of the nest bowlhttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/sad.gif so never used since.
peterpau Posted October 22, 2010 Report Posted October 22, 2010 I use tobacco stalks but I cut them in half first. If I cant get stalks, I'll buy some rolling baccy and put some in each nest. Great insectiside

Great insectiside You saying putting bacca in the nests I recall an old timer telling me he used to collect all he's dogends and put them in a pal of water. He used to spray he's lofts out with this as well as spraying he's roses, said it kept all the bugs away.
