In this area you'll loss 2-4 from the loft Percy/Sparrow. 6-8 training, Percy.8-10 racing,clashing/percy.Whatever that leaves that's what you might end up with.Then you could loss some of them after racing,Percy/Sparrow.

i think your nearly right lindsay but its not all about percy & co, some just havent got it and many are unwell thats a bigger prob than bop,s JMO

anything is possible but unlikely nowadays. say you breed 60 and are left with 30 if you were good enough to select the 30 before racing started you`ve cracked it. these days guys breed off anything to get their numbers up,, long ago when money was tight only the best were kept and bred from. its been sad on here many times breeding from generations of untested birds only leads one way.

The first year i raced 1983 started with 12 young birds and finished with 11.

Thats as good as i have ever had it . Its been down hill ever since.

I was always told to look for 50% left of what you started the season with. Which to date has been the case for me since i started.

my m8 bred 26 ybs and he got 2 the 4th yb race wit out losein any that was wit trainin aswell

20 YR AGO IT WAS 20-30 YBS HITTING THE ALLOTTMENTS AT ONCE OU THE SHORT ONES YER LUCKY IF YOU GET 7-8  :-/

I reckon that if you have 50% good birds at the end of a season after working them hard, you will have done well. I used to loose a heck of a lot. Then I wised up. I started to use the Bull system for breeding and never bred from birds that had not done anything on the road. As each year has gone by, my losses have got better and better. Most of the problems with losses are caused by rubbish pigeons. People buy in birds from all over the place and loose most of them. Next year they breed and buy bigger numbers. Mostly of the same rubbish standard and loose another lot. And as the numbers in the lofts get bigger the health of the birds gets worse. Even more losses.

Then they can not afford to treat the birds for the diseases that are bound to come with the overcrowding and things get even worse.

I have seen lofts with young birds crammed in without enough perches to go around. And I have seen them with runny noses and loose droppings. And the next time you race youngsters look at the ones with their crops full of food. Those birds will not only become ill but will spread their germs every where.

So if you want to reduce your losses you will first have to make sure that your birds are fit and healthy. And also make sure that they are bred from stock that are proven to be able to race. There is no other way.

Yep. And as I've never seen a perigrene, only ever heard of three here about, which are no longer it seems, then Outside of Sparrow hawks problems, I'd say yes. But would be some feat.  Not bred , or have the same charactor, or homing ability like they use to. 30 years ago quite possibly. Was a time when 24 youngsters was a 'Mobb Flyer' and 12 or so flew the whole shebang, and made yearlings and old birds. Indeed many had to make way fr younger birds. The work of Mr. Basket, failed as nigh every year after young birds racing finished, there was the heartache of deciding what was going to have to go. Very few sucessful loft raced above 4 year old.  No such thing as 'Stock Lofts' or stockbirds come to that. All had to earn it's corn. Itr's perch and then it's nest box.

Mate years ago you sent everything you had to all the yb races and what was left was left.Truth is you didnt lose much until you got to the 200mls mark with the old birds.Its a different ball game these days and there must be reasons for it.

had 30,ybs last year only managed 5 out of 7 races due to moult only 12, left. not been over 70,miles

            worried for them as yearlings
