chris h Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 How many of you's race Jan Aardens.and your views on them.long distance or short distance.
Guest mr mrs arnold sons Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 they will do bouth good birds but i let all my jan aardens go to a new starter
sapper756 Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 Typical Janardens are bred for the long distance
Gaz Jennings Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 The best distance birds in the world IMO,what they havnt won isnt worth winning, good strong honest pigeons when you have the right ones, had these when they were crossed with the ko nipius birds of Kippaxs, top top birds, cottonheat has jan ardens x kippax on this site speak to him.
andrecrock Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 I haven't raced any yet,but i have got a pair of late breads which i hope will breed the "goods".The famous "Invincible spirit" did his share on the distance and the late breads i have is of his pedigree.I'm looking forward to 09 season.
swilcox Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 My have won from 60 mls to 350 mls as yearlings and hopefully this year will go to 550mls where i belive they will get even better. Predominetly distance but will respond to sprint/middle distance if managed correctly.

Guest Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 How many of you's race Jan Aardens.and your views on them.long distance or short distance. Hiya Chris I visited Tumley lofts today and saw some quality Jan Aardens, They have a good breding record and what I liked about James was that he was totlly genuine, had a reaal knowledge of his birds and cared. You were asking me if I had any , if you want a good pair pm James (id on here Tumley lofts) and ask him for No 70 and No 28 that I picked out today, they are £50 each and well worth it. He's going to Blackpool so you could pick thrm up there.
Guest surfer Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 I have some Patrick Bros Jan Aardens, X H. Metselaar Jan Aardens good honest pigeons that will try from any distance.Timed one to be 17th Open from Fougeres and the same bird timed from Tarbes.
ribble Posted January 7, 2009 Report Posted January 7, 2009 A smattering in our birds. There seem to be that many about, choose carefully not all good ones. If i had to choose someone to get them of it would be Harding, Cheshire.
stan p Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 i do not think they are any beter than other breeds when you look at the amount racing stan
peterpau Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Probably one of the best of the modern strains but? What does a name mean anyway?

If i had to choose someone to get them of it would be Harding, Cheshire. have to agree there ribble , roy harding as had them quite a long time , sorted them out so to speak , and does,nt ask silly money my experience of the aardens , if you have no patience forget having them they are a slow maturing strain and not at their best till at least two year old , and basically a two day pigeon , so can dissapoint at 500 mile on day lots of fanciers try them , then get rid , saying were a load of crap , did,nt wait for them to mature patience is the word
PigeonTracker Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 It takes them 300 miles to warm up so distance is definately what they go for. Tumley Lofts do have some cracking birds there as do Steve Wright (House of Arden), two of the best breeders of the Aarden strain in the country imho.
DeDarren Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 From personal experience I would have to agree that they don't get going 'til it gets further out, but we have had good results over the pond when crossed into Planet Brothers' Van Loons / Aliens (which are claimed to actually be Aarden based by a man in the 'know').
ken Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 i bought a pair of roy harding £250 he picket them him self for me and said they would breed the goods there in the bin yes he has some good birds but i wouldent have them again but thats me
b.massey Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 I have had Jan Aarden pigeons for about 3 years and these are awesome birds. They look anf fly the part. The fact that I concentrate on Showing my pigeons more than racing means I dont push them hard in racing months but people who have had some of these birds have done very well. Picture of my 11 year old Jan Aarden cock.....
chris h Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 some mixed feeling on the Aardens then.they do look the part though.
W.D. Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 Some of the scots guys are doing well with them at the moment, look at Peter Virtue's write ups in the SNRPC website, and some the Lanarkshire lads also,Billy Davidson,Kerr Stainthorpe have won with them. The McGhie family won Tours(Nantes) nat a few years back from a very hard race timing in around 12am the 2nd day, their birds were from Louella if I remember correctly.
joe61 Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 de darren alien are not loon x Aarden so your man in the know dont know oh happy days
gangster Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 de darren alien are not loon x Aarden so your man in the know dont know oh happy days [/quot spot on joe i think someones telling you porkies de darren..........

With regards to the attached J.McGhie & Son & G/son Won Nantes in 1998 with their Good Dark Chq Cock which they named Firpark. He was timed the next day around 9.25am with a velocity of 800 and his breeding was Fallahill Superstar X Jan Aarden from Peter Reeves.Sadly the cock went out one day and never returned. Budgie
DeDarren Posted January 8, 2009 Report Posted January 8, 2009 de darren alien are not loon x Aarden so your man in the know dont know oh happy days G'day Joe, if you read what I wrote one more time, you will realise that I never said Aliens are Loon x Aarden, I said I had good success when I crossed Aarden based pigeons with pigeons of Planet Brothers' Van Loon and Alien origins. And my source, who is a very close, lifelong friend of Gary Squibb and his dad John before he passed away (so close in fact he often served on Planet Brother's stall at Blackpool, helped out with the management of the pigeons at Noak Hill and brought me at least 4 of my original Planet Brothers stock pigeons from Noak Hill to my home in Liverpool) stated to me that the Aliens were Aarden based. As you will no doubt be aware, Planet Brothers brought in the Aliens for the further distance at Combine level and refused to tell the buying public what the actual base of the Alien pigeons were, given the amount of people that had previously jumped on the Van Loon bandwagon and used the good name of Planet Brothers to sell pigeons that did not originate from themselves. So I am going on what this person who I know to be very close to the Squibb's inner circle, told me a long time ago and who I would assume had no reason to be telling me porky pies, as he had nothing to gain by doing this, to my way of thinking.
chris h Posted January 8, 2009 Author Report Posted January 8, 2009 I do like the look of this pigeon. Does anyone know the breeding?
Tumley Lofts Stud Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Hi all, We've had Aardens for nearly 20 years now and from the time we introduced them to the loft til now they have won at the distance but don't write them off over short distance if it's a tough one. I've just bought back one of our won birds (2004 bred) and she has won from 60 miles through to 617 miles flying into Scotland! They have won at every level of competiton including 1st Scottish National! Not much more you can ask of a strain! We only keep around 15 pairs, so for these achievement to have come from such a small group of pigeons is outstanding.
