they may have later but they were founded on the Hoorabin's as were the Van Reets originally according to the Video's, I have the first 8 of the Around Antwerp videos including Marcellis and Van Reet na dwhen they mentioned this family I originally thought they said Houben but in fact they didn't it was Hoorabin and I have watched them many times not saying they did not bring Houbens in later but the familys were founded on the Hoorabin's, I had never heard of these so that was why I originally thought they said Houben but I have heard of it a few times since apparently it was a very old breed. Pigeons will always use the wind so on land the wise men from the East will have the advantage if the wind is Westerly as in a normal year 86% are Westerly that tells its own story, not saying that good flyers won't win but the % is with the East. Paul

I know they do it with budgies and parrots and like but I have never heard of it with pigeons, in fact my son does it but I dont think I would reccomend it with pigeons, there should be no food hanging about with pigeons anyway due to vermin etc. Paul

Sorry but I agree with Wiley, if it aint broke don't fix it, I now have mine tested and at £2 for droppings and £3 a pigeon for throat swabs it works out cheaper than keep paying for stuff you may not need and you are not damaging the birds immune system by keep using medication, in the last 3 years I have only had to treat mine 3 times when they needed treating, so I am happy with that but I suppose its each to his own. If you look at the video's on sale showing the Belgian and Dutch fanciers they all advocate different products but you will find this product on 90% of the fanciers lists if not more so in my opinion there must be something in it. Paul

My own personal opinion is that the Hessions are the best although I have been told that the Mardons do well when crossed with other Van Reets.I also think that there are good and bad in them all. Paul

As most people will know due to my previous posts that I am Moving my birds onto an allotment due to neighbour trouble, well I moved 12 cocks up and last Thursday I decided it was time to start letting them out they are not paired my reasoning being since they had not had a box or bred at the old lofts as they are all 08 birds and had only been trained so out they went, Thursday they all returned to the old address, Fri once again they all returned to the old address Saturday it was very foggy so I didn't let them out Sunday 2 stayed and 9 returned leaving 1 missing when I went up Monday morning the one missing had returned of its own accord which meant that 3 were now ok at the new lofts. On Monday night the other 9 stayed out but on going dark they were neither at the old lofts or at the new ones, Tuesday dinner 3 more returned with another a couple of hours later then at 14-15 the other 5 all dropped at the new lofts so they are now all broke in and I am really pleased with the sense they have shown and just hope they show the same sense when racing. They do not become non members if they sell up unless they resign, in fact they could in theory still purchase rings as long as they are still members, this has happened before when a well known fancier had an entire clearance sale and then it was found that the same fancier bought rings in the same year. I bought 2 at their sale in Blackpool in 2007 bred 2 off them in 2007, one won 3rd club 3rd Fed beaten by 2 loftmates also 3rd club 8th fed the other was 2nd club beaten by loftmate 17th fed and 1st club 26th fed for the pair I paid a grand total of £70 although others same way bred were going for over £200 each just goes to show its not what you pay.
