Ok here's my problem. After i moved house all my birds got out and i lost all my stockers apart from one pair. I have 11 hens and 16 cocks (ive borrowed another 5 hens to even the numbers out) from the 11 hens and 16 cocks they have all completed the young bird season and all flew reasonably well .My problem is how do i decide what to use for stock birds and what to use as racer's.Do i just race them all next year after taken a full round of youngsters then decide after the next old bird season or do i just breed of my racers each year and have no stock birds.I was looking at have 35 youngsters this year so one round would put me on 32 and i will be happy with that.I think i'm answering my own question here . Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also i dont want to buy anymore birds after the money i spent and lost on the last lot.

Eagleowl how are your results in racing? I'm not being picky or insulting just genuinely curious as next year will be my first year on widowwood and i havnt got a clue about the feeding methods yet. Also when you say food in front of them all the time what food is it?

I think this is a great idea.I know everything ive learned about pigeons in the last 18 months has been down to trial and error or this site and people on it. I found people are great at saying they love to help or like to offer help in front of the other club members until they are actually asked.I also find there great to offer advice when your at the bottom of the sheet but when you put a few near the top they turn tight lipped.

during racing season ive been told to keep an old cock in a show pen in the hens section and they wont pair up.Or let them see other cocks apart from there own through a partition or seperation. Dont know how true it is

Heya philips.I would like a system for the widowood please. I'm going to widowwood next year (this was my first full season of racing) i have built an 8X8 loft and put 16 boxe's in there.I have allready put the cock's in the loft ready and all have picked there boxe's .14 of them are yearling's 1 is a two year old and the last one is not for racing as he has no ring . The hens are housed in a different shed the other side of the garden and neither can see the other i hope this is the way to go .

It all boils down to choice mate if ya dont want it dont buy it. One mans rubbish is another mans treasure as the saying go's

I know the feeling i moved house and all my birds where let out my loft when i was out. I came so close to packing it all in.This was my first full season in the sport and ive not won a race yet but someone still decided it would be better to let all my birds go. I managed to get all my young bird team back after two days of them flying round i also got a pair of stockers back.Lost 7 stockers that i bought to start me off .If it wasnt for the support of the missus i would of just jacked it in.

A thing a lot of people are forgetting is humidity. A little rain in the corridoor does no harm just increase's the humidity. The main loft is still dry and the birds are still dry.Could be the late great davie angus had his humidity just right.

still got them all the last one took a fed card in the last race from Kingsdown .A 190 miles to me . Will be interesting to see how they do as yearling's.
-
I wonder how many actually vacinate now
-
Ive got to build a new shed for next season.Hoping to race on roundabout to double my team also going to split the current loft into two sections so i can seperate youngbirds next year and race them on the widowhood.

I will be sending two in the middlewich two bird as well Pete so good luck mate.

Moved house 3 weeks ago and to cut a long story short came home from shopping and shed doors where open. Not sure if they have been stolen or lost. Ive managed to get all my young bird team back and a few other stockers but the one's missing are Nl 05 1625568 Nl 06 1292051 Nl 06 1292061 Nl 06 1292144 Any help appreciated. On the plus side it broke my young bird team out and ive raced the last two race's taking 2 club cards in each race and looks like a fed card this week.

Pay ya money and take chance. Thats what it boils down to at the end of the day.If ya read the adverts every pigeon you buy will win or breed winner's. Its all down to management at the end of the day .A good fancier will get bad birds to beat good birds in the hands of a bad fancier. Its when a good fancier gets a good bird that people stand up and take notice.

Make that 23/23 last one just dropped in all the rain.
-
22 out of 23 had a batch of 18 drop at once and flying everywhere it was mayhem clocked 6 and look's like i am 8th 9th 10th 11th 12th 13th in the club. Was my last race as moving house next weekend.3rd house in two years lets hope i can settle for good now and give the birds some normality.

Ive not got Ets but cant see a problem with having to seal a pad in place. You have to seal a clock why not an ets pad?

Got to agree with all the post about Stuart being a top bloke on here. But as for selling birds ,a perspective buyer should have the right to ask questions about the bird he or she is interested in.The Naysayers and hecklers should be stopped but genuine parties who are interested should be able to ask questions.Opinions should be kept to yourself if not asked for.

had a pigeon on the garden today and noticed its ring began with IF it was a green ring and looked to have an ETS ring on it.Anyone know where IF ring is from? just curious as ive never seen one before .Pigeon looked in good condition and flew of after it had a drink out of the pigeon bath.
