  1. I reckon it should be last old bird first young bird race prolly the beginning of july We could hold multiple race's incorporating both old and young birds more pigeons would be released that way . Interest a big bookmaker say Ladbrookes or Sky bet and your laughing.
  2. 3/4 lessay 4/5 yeovil Both missing birds are yearling cocks It maybe time for me to lay them of till next year now .
  3. Its not allways so.But usually if it is a cock and hen the cock is usually the larger of the two.
  4. Ive a big race coming up in two weeks and my cocks have gone of the boil .Now there is a big race coming up in two weeks and ive read somewhere that repairing the cocks will get you an extra race .Can anyone tell me if its true and if so when to repair them.
  5. Train it up and everywhere you go take it with you and throw it up.If its there next year race it.
  6. Does anyone know of a FREE loft organiser .My old one wont work with 64bit operating system.I'm not after club software just one for personal use.
  7. Lots of people are very secretive in this sport mate at least thats what i found out when i started a couple of years back. Its funny now i am holding my own in the club there all keen to offer advice.

  9. i just crush two cloves into a 2litre drinker and fill up with fresh water.
  10. No strain dont mean anything mate. The only true way to find out if its any good at racing is to race it mate. Pedigree's are a good base to start from if youve nothing else but race results are more important. The basket is a great leveler.
  11. lol volvo v40 .Theve since been on the phone and said sometime this week.

    Retuns today (if up)

7 from 9 all yearling cocks of the two that are missing one is a latebred and the other had a few days out a couple of weeks ago.
  13. you wake up to find the NFC are held over till tomorrow and the club birds are nowhere in site then your neighbor clocks 5 birds 20 mins before your first one..Then while waiting for your latecomers the other neighbors Kid puts a brick through the car windscreen when i'm due in work tomorrow. So after ringing the insurance for replacement glass you get told it will be a two week wait for the glass to come into stock....Oh well allways tomorrow.
  14. any news on the NFC yet?
  15. yeah he is a yearling so his breeding is untested as of yet. This week was a hard slog and it was his slowest yet form wise he looks and feels like he did before the first race.I agree with the competing at national level that is my goal .And if i had a bigger team made up of older birds as well i dont think i would hesitate to put him in on a side note his nest mate is in excellent condition and she will be going no matter what .
  16. Ok guys heres my dilemma. Ive paid for 7 birds to fly in this weeks national and i only have 17 birds in my loft(apart from youngsters). Now its been my intention all along to fly hens in the national and cocks in the club on a modified roundabout system due to losses and accidents i only have 5 racing hens left wich in itself is not a problem as i can put two cocks in as well. Now my dilemma is i have a cock that has been in the clock every club race so far upto 165 miles and never been out of the top ten in the club (97-135 birds) he has took secong fed as well but he wont trap and i am losing a good two-five min's each race with him.Now should i jump him to the national this week 320 miles to me and hope he can do the distance and trap better ,or keep him inland and use him to build my team bear in mind this is my first real season and i only have a team of twelve cocks all yearlings bar one and 5 hens all yearlings bar 1.I have pigeons lined up for the other 6 entries .Its just this last one spot do i put my best pigeon so far or another bird.
  17. With no intention of picking an argument You cant put all the blame on the people who liberated the birds we are all capeable of reading a weather forecast and all knew the weather for yesterday yet we still sent the birds (myself included). Its easy to critisise(sp) after the event. In this day and age there is no exscuse for not checking the weather. If you think its gonna be a bad one raise the issue with your club sec and if all else fails keep the birds home.Like i said i'm not trying to pick an argument because i sent my own birds as well yesterday luckily we had half decent returns but i am still 2 hens down wich is a big loss for me as i only had seven hens to start with.
  18. south west cheshire fed where up at 10am from wincanton 155 miles, i clocked my first at 13:44 .Velocity about 1200.I'm 4 missing from 19.

    RETURNS THIS WEEKEND

17/18 for me from yeovil in south west cheshire fed. Good race for me took 4th club with a cock that flew round for over 5 min's. He did the same last week and won the club and took second fed. Four races 3 club cards and 1 fed card. Not bad for my first proper season
  20. Split them for a week and dont let them see another pigeon and cut back the food on the hen.

    Widowhood Bath.

gonna try this ,this week lads.I will be basketing to take to club at 18:30 so what time would be best to give the a dip?
  22. Jones brothers in cheshire clocked the first 7 in the fed the other year and some guy down the club said you better frame that as it will never happen again. What he didnt know is the lads had all the birds they sent drop together and only clocked the 7.It was using a t3 as well not ets. I know this is true as i was sat in there garden watching them clock the birds. They are so called back garden fliers and do not spend huge amounts of money on birds or equipment just common sense and good management.

    Training.

So why are the first race's so important?Surely good birds are better than club average's if a birds not ready to race then it wont race.If its not had the training it needs dont race it.This is my first season of old bird racing proper and i have a team of 32 on the roundabout and not one has been trained yet. I am more concerned about building a good team for the future than a few early wins.
  24. Nice to see your racing Fantails mate i'm all for trying new things. Great results Spencer i would be proud of myself it was my birds that bred them.
