From experience ive found when a heat spell does hit, some fanciers decide to basket there young birds for the first time, and instead of going very early morning or late evening, they decide to basket about an hour or two before lunch time. Generally on these first tosses the birds make mistakes and it isnt he case of out of the basket then home. This applied with the heat causes the birds stress and dehydration. Then young bird sickness rears its head, and thats been the case for many years in London and Essex area. The first thing people ask when they say they got young bird sickness is "you didnt train em on such a day in those temperatures did you?"

I cant say how true it is is but i remember reading most roller pigeons nowadays do not roll as they only been bred for the show pen??

Hi Neil, Mickys birds really do exercise very well at home so i am told, not just by micky, but by the fanciers who live locally. Whether they fed before or after flight i couldnt say my friend, however i imagine the use of superstar plus, would be due to the fact the expect their birds to perform from the short races to the long distance races, with no pigeon being specialised for one or the other, but then again that would be a guess again, as its not a question i asked at the time.
